New panther sleeping worries

MistakenCritter

Hi guys, picked up my female panther yesterday, she 3 - 4 months old, I live in the UK so she is in a large reptile one enclosure with screen top 4ft x 4ft x 2ft, arcadia T5 pro 6% 6 inches away, basking temp is 32°c and a jungle dawn for the live plants, she's in a bioactive environment, bio has been up and running for a few weeks prior to picking her up yesterday, lights on at 7am, of at 7pm, misting at 7.10pm for 2 mins, humidity stays at around 90%-95% during the night and is between 50-60% during day (in centre of enclosure, slightly lower towards the top) she ate 12 small crickets for breakfast lightly dusted with calcium powder, then went to her basking spot for an hour, now she has moved to a lower branch but keeps nodding of to sleep, I'm hoping it's just her settling into her new environment, but reading online this could be stress related, ambient temps are 24-22 and have a dripper running through the day, in the terrarium there is a large ficus, a pothos and a neon pothos, dwarf umbrella tree, spider plants, and a couple of smaller plants on the ground, it's standing on a cabinet so she is above my head height when she's eating/basking, I'm really hoping the sleeping is possibly where it's a new environment on her own, she was with other babies when I picked her up yesterday, but could someone please confirm if this is normal for the 1st couple of days, I haven't handled her yet as want her to settle in

Hey there, welcome to the forum and the exciting (yet stressful at first) world of being a Cham parent!

Are you able to post a full picture of the cage, showing the light placement and all? As well as a picture of the Cham? Although, it could be from the stress, Chameleons closing their eyes to sleep in the day isn't a good sign.

When they're young, they don't require as high heat for a basking area. Also depending on the ambient temperature of the room, they may not require the basking light to be on at all times.

The very best resources for panther info can be found here:

There's also the addition of your little girl requiring specialized care to help minimize egg production. Panther chameleons can produce eggs, even without a male; like chickens. This is a good blog on how to prepare for this: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/egg-laying-and-the-laying-bin.345/

Although this is for vaileds the same could be applied to panthers: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/veiled-chameleon-laying-101.2488/

If you can copy and paste these questions it'll help more experienced members evaluate the situation. 🙂
