Hello, First I want to say thank you for allowing me to stop by and check out this great forum. I have been searching for a little bit now, and tons of good info; which Ive learned so much about.

I purchased this blue barbed Chameleon about a week ago. He is 1 year 2 months old, and is super friendly. You open the cage, and he come out to you..lol When the auto mister comes on, he runs and gets under it, and lets you watch while he eats and drinks (been told that a pretty cool trait).

I took some picture wanting to know if I have been doing everything alright, and if he looks healthy. He gets about 10-13 crickets a day (always seems to have left overs in his cage 3-4 left), he gets mist 4 times, 3 minutes each. UV 5.0, and 100w basking lamp. I have not given supplements, but please advise... Everything is auto-time, with the lamps being on from 6am-800pm, holding about 70-80% RH and 60-80temps away from the lamp.

I purchase the crickets in bulk (500-1000), and they get the cricket grain food (which supposedly has stuff in it to make keep him healthy??).

Sorry if the pics are too big, just wanted to show detail :) (I even re sized them! lol)

Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum....your cham is beautiful! :)

Where did you get him from?

If he is 1.2 years old he doesn't need 10 - 13 crickets every day...thats too much. Its really easy to over feed and mine get fed every other day when they reached 12 moths old.

Here are great links on supplements

And this is always a great read :)

He is a looker that's for sure. Can you show him a mirror and get a pic. I'd like to see him fired up.

You said you have a 5.0 UVB. What brand is this bulb? Currently one of the only acceptable UVB bulbs is the ReptiSun 5.0 linear tube type bulb. The wattage on your basking lamp seems like it might be a bit too high. Most use a 60 watt bulb, you want his basking spot to be between 85 and 90 degrees.

Congrats on finding this guy, and welcome to the forums.

Looks healthy, and some great blue bars! You're lucky to have a friendly one; I do, too. You might want to mix up his diet a bit (if you aren't already); crickets are a good staple food, but they appreciate a little variety. My panther loves superworms; silkworms, phoenix worms, butterworms and roaches are all options for occasional treats. Captive-raised hornworms are good, if messy (wild-caught are toxic because of the plants they've fed on).

I bet he fires some crazy reds between those blue bars. If you get a chance you need to show him a mirror so he can see himself and get fired up. He is gorgeous. I am quite jealous.

Wow,,thank you everyone...I had no idea what I have until now lol! This is my first, and I guess I was quite blessed in my picking the right one (with the forums advise / discussions I read of course :D ).

I purchased some supplements per some of the comments on this thread, so those will started asap. I will put a mirror in front of him and snap a pic or 2 :)

Thanks again for the compliments, and and helpful tips!!

Let the chameleon decide how much he needs. They are the best judge of when enough is enough.

Another quick question...

I noticed TINY, REAL tiny black bugs that jump in the cage. I have live plants and they seem to like the wood stuff better (bark branches), those are not mites are they?? When I touch them, they jump....

Wow! His colors when he fires up is beautiful! You are very lucky to have such a beautiful & friendly cham. :)

When it comes to feeding does he 10 - 13 a day and leave the rest so in fact he is eating 6 - 9 feeder? I have stuck to what more expereinced keepers say and feed mine 3 - 5 feeders every other day. This includes well gutloaded crickets, dubia, superworms, silkworms and hornworms.

Good luck choosing his name, I am sure you will choose something that suits him.....once again he is lovely. I just love that sleeping picture :)
