Ok question...I just got my lil bugger today! He's been getting used to his new enclosure and his colors are saying hes not that stressed!! So anyway I had some crickets but I think they might be a little too big...I didnt really expect him to be THIS small lol. (3 months). Anyway they are about the size of his head, and some in the package were bigger...so I been throwing those ones outside. My question is, he was climbing around for about an hour and then bam, caught a cricket (dusted with Calcium) and then he chewed it for a few seconds, then spit it out...

Is it too big for him? Maybe too heavily dusted? If so ill make a run and get a bunch smaller crix and some worms.

From what I understand, from the folks here, the "rule of thumb" is no bigger than the space between the eyes. I started my baby with very small crickets, and an Occasional meal worm. Go light on the mealies, they have alot of chitin, [the hard outer layer] and can cause impaction if fed to often. The dusting is good, just a light amount. Good luck and have fun. Peace.

Yep they were too big...got rid of em all...I only got a few dozen anyway. So I went back and got the smallest they had which seems just right. Ill see what happens. I also got some small mealies! I will let you know how it goes.

Be careful with the mealworms. I wouldn't use them at that age unless they are freshly molted. The hard chitinous exoskeleton can cause impaction if your not careful. I would stick to soft insects until he is at least 5 months old.
