i was wondering does breeding male C. calyptratus affect life spent like it does females?
and what do u think is expected longevity for calyptatus 1 not breed female 2 breed female 3 male ?
thanks

I wouldnt think sex would affect the male in terms of longevity, no.

I hear....

1. not bred female ~ 3-4 yrs
2. breeding female ~ 2-3 yrs
3. male ~ 5 yrs

My male died this summer around 8 years old. He was an active breeder. My oldest female, currently digger her nest (should have finished by now...should probably check up on her) is about 5 years old now. She's laid eggs pretty much every year. But not more than 1.5 times a year on average. None of her clutches was over 32 eggs. Feeding and temperatures has "something to do" with the number of clutches, size of clutches and those have something to do with longevity.
