OK, so a few of you might remember that Okiroo posted on the forum last week about my male Hoehnelli kermit.
SHe found him with one eye shut and blood on his face.

He just got home, and I can see whats going on.

One eye, while he keeps it open, he seems to keep it more withdrawn into his head. but the eye is open, though he bulges it to clean it.

Also,
I think the blood came fro his rostral horn.

Its gone.

Not sure if he rubbed it off, broke it off or whatever. but its gone.

I think he wil be ok, Okiroo said he was eating and drinking normally.

So im just going to put some neosporin on his nose for a week or so, and give him a saline eye drop a coupld times a day, and super long mistings, but i think he should be fine.

Here are some pics.

PS- Okiroo- Its not your fault. Im sure he will be fine. please dont worry or blame yourself!!! I dont think you could have done anything to avoid this!!!

PSS- any suggestions appreciated.

he's shutting it??? dureing the misting or just sitting there like that?

just sitting there.

he shuts it for a second or two. and then opens it again.

he had it open after the first day and at all times when i sent him off. that sounds like a disimprovement. :/ did it swell in the shower? mabey the thing thats hurting his eye is right on the surface now but really im not shure. did you put his drops in? i used the acual eye drops for like red eye releif.

Okiroo, did you use eye drops with any medication in it? You should only use plain saline solution eye wash, and nothing that contains any medicine or chemicals. When you say for "red eye relief" I worry that it's one of those that contains agents to make redness go away and isn't necessarily just an eye wash.

I havent showered him yet.

he drank earlier.

I put some saline drops in it.

Theres no swelling. hes only bulged it once. its like a really long blink. but he opens it on his own.

idk what kind they were. it says saline solution but then it had things that it would do

remove itchy
redeye relief ect

it was in the really small bottles. i also had contact solution but didnt use that.

this wasnt the exact one but the bottle inside is the same size and it said the same things-

It is really common for them to rub the horn off. Im not sure why they do it in captivity and it is even more strange that it happened free ranged.

The eye being drawn in. I honestly dont think the drop did anything. Personally i would keep an eye on an sinus infection, some sort of infection or even possible debris that has made it into the turret.. I would give him shower treatments daily if he is willing to.

he loves showers. drinks for 20 minutes every time.

The eye doesnt look swollen. in face, its sunken in a bit. though i know hes not dehydrated.

he used the eye some, not as much as the other. and like i said, he does close it for a second or two but he reopens it on his own.

I am just going to do a daily warm shower, and a drop of saline twice a day, in case something is in it.

if his activity level changes, or there appears to be any swelling, it is off to the vet.

for now, some tlc, showers, and saline!

sound good??

Swelling of the turret is usually the sign of a advanced sinus infection. Could possibly be still early. This is just a suggestion. Not saying it is :)

Personally i dont like to drop anything into the eyes unless it is completely necessary. Even if it is as harmless as saline solution. I think if he has any debris the showers will do the trick.

hmm.. Ok.
I mean i dont see anything in his eye, but it could be a small speck of something.

if the eye shutting continues, well go to the vet.

what would be other signs of a SI?

Since he hsa no swelling, no puffing of the eye, no crustiness. etc.

Sometimes a knot will form between the eye. Sinus infection unfortunately arent noticed till signs show up. It would be nice if they could tell us something aint right :) Again i wouldnt say this is the case here but something to look for.

Check the eye itself for any deformities of the pupil.

A knot? would i be able to see this?

so far, i see no signs of a sinus infection.

I wish they could just tell me, mom my eye hurts, somethings in it.

I looked at the eye thoroughly with a magnifying glass.

I saw no deformities, no scratches, nothing in the eye. aside from being sunken a bit and him bllinking, there is nothing wrong with it.

he still moves it, still reacts if i get my finger close to his eye (so i know hes not blind in it).

Im just going to do daily warm showers, get alot of outside time.

and if hes still closing it in a week, we shall go see a vet. maybe get some antibiotic eye drops or something.

Knot, bump where the infection is swelling (kinda like a zit with no head). How do you like that description lol.

I hope the showers work out for him. Keep us posted.

Is the eye attentive?

Will he follow a finger or feeder with it?
Yes. he doesnt use it as much to look around with as his other one, but he does look around, and while he hasnt goten food today, he does follow my finger when i move it by that eye.
