my jacksons chameleon has been acting wierd for the past days. these past 2 days he hasnt moved much from the same spot, and with in the past week i have catched him exhaling (breathing heavily outwards) its not a constant thing its more of sudden thing he does. when he exhales i can see the contractions in his limbs. and wel im worried does any body have any opinions? he is about 1 year and half old. he is free ranged.

We don't have enough info to guess. Please fill out the "how to ask for help" form at the top of this forum. He could be gaping because he's too hot, he could have a respiratory infection, he could be trying to threaten you or some other animal he can see from his cage.

How to ask for help form completed!!! Help

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - jacksons chameleon.iv had it for 1 year and a half. its a boy.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? i truely never handle him.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? i feed him 5-4 large crix every day,sometime he only eats 3. i gut load with romane lettuce and apples,carrots.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? i dust with d3 calcium once a month and normal calcium(rep.cal.) every other day.vitamins once a month.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? he has a mist king and i give him water once a day for 2 min directly with his spray bottle. i do see him drink
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? he has been pooping really nice, black fecal with white sometimes alitttle orange at tip..not usual.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. well i know he is an inbreed due to his hands having a minor deformity at his fingers.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? i have him free ranged since he was about 3-4 months old. it is a fairly big range for his size.
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?i use a reptiglow 5.0 uvb and a 45 watt house bulb for temp.
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? daily it is 85 deg.F.(basking spot) his cool area is 80. i have thermomter at both ends.
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? around 50 - 60 humidity. use mist king to humidify and hae plants as well
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? i have a large pothos plant
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? it is at the highest corner of my room not close to any vents.no fans. no traffic just me ,,but he doesent really mind me.
Location - Where are you geographically located? yuma az.

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. hehas recently developed a noticible breathing problem. at times i have cought him exhaling profoundly..and makes a hiss. these past 2 days he has been inactive not really going about his normal routine of climbing around his areas. when he exhales i can see his limbs contract as i imagine any chams limbs would be noticible when breathing as hard.( he is not always exhaling like this, infact he probably has done that about 5 times.) its hard to catch him doin it so i could record it.

Those temps are a bit high. I do not let Rex's basking spot get over 80-82 and it should be in the 70's in the lower level. Also he requires serious humidity. I let my mist king run 4 times a day for 5 minutes.

well im thinking that maybe my temps could have an effect on his breathing so i will try and move his spot to a cooler area
