Hey, Rex, welcome to the forums :)

Chameleons are pretty easily stressed so you should be careful in general to be patient with them when trying to hold them and slow training will eventually lead to you being able to hold him without stress in some cases.

Seeing as you just got him today, I wouldn't be too alarmed at all! It may be a while before you start seeing him eat or drink, as well (you may actually pretty much never see him drink--that's definitely rare). He's just scared because of the new environment and whatnot. Don't do too much going in and out of his cage, etc. unless feeding or minor cleaning for the next week or so and let him get used to you being around and his new place.

He'll brighten up after some time. :)

What's the little guy's name? Can we see some pictures of him and your enclosure?

Dillon

Okay thanks. I just found it weird that his so black. I use to have a veiled chameleon, got him when he was 2 weeks and I had him for like a yr and sadly his past away. He didn't seem like thr where any problem but he wasn't his normal self so I toke him to the vet and he stay over night whit them and he passed away. They told me it was natural causes. The first day I got him he was really green and sense this one is my second Cham I thought he would be the same but I guess not. My new chameleon is named Rex hah. My name is Alex. I actually saw Rex drink water, i spread his cage whit water before I but him in and I saw him drink.

Lol oh, well, hello Alex! :D Welcome to the forums, yourself!! xD

I'm sorry to hear about your past Cham. But at least you're starting anew with little Rex :) That's good to hear.

Hello and Welcome!

Your past cham died of natural causes at 1 year old???

Yes, I usually let my chams settle in for about a month. That gives them enough time to relax

He is just settling into his new habitat, just keep putting food in there if you don't see any left and try not to touch him for about a month. :D

Wow that's pretty dark. I think it's the same thing though. Just getting used to it.

How warm is your enclosure at night?

Yea his been like that all day yesterday, at night, and this moring to

The temperature is around 60 degrees

the temp in his cage is 60 deg, or the temp in the air is 60 deg?

If its 60 in his cage, thats way way way too cold.

No, i was asked whats the temperature at night. Its 60 at night, in the day his basking spot is around 85 and the bottom is 70

He will continue to turn black and hide until you learn to take better pictures of him!! ;) ;) :D

No his black like as black as a bottle of coke, i never seen one be that black. Its been two days now and his the same just black. His also very skiney

I know with my Jackson's when I took her to the Vet, she turned almost pitch black like that because it was so cold in the Vet's office. So that low temp. may be contributing to that at night.

During the day, it's harder to say without a more detailed account of your enclosure.

It's a matter of finding what's bugging him and correcting it. Sometimes, they just need time to adjust to a new environment. With my experiences, darker colouration consistently will indicate that temps. need to be adjusted. Either they are too cool or too hot - your little guy is upset at something and it's up to you to figure it out.

It really could be a number of things. Filling out the care sheet and providing a picture of your enclosure will help others on here pinpoint areas of improvement or give you some helpful advice. Until then, it's all a guessing game for us. :S
