Hi I'm new to the forums, I got a new veiled Cham today and his been black and hiding all the way in the back. Is it normal for him to be like that ?
Okay thanks. I just found it weird that his so black. I use to have a veiled chameleon, got him when he was 2 weeks and I had him for like a yr and sadly his past away. He didn't seem like thr where any problem but he wasn't his normal self so I toke him to the vet and he stay over night whit them and he passed away. They told me it was natural causes. The first day I got him he was really green and sense this one is my second Cham I thought he would be the same but I guess not. My new chameleon is named Rex hah. My name is Alex. I actually saw Rex drink water, i spread his cage whit water before I but him in and I saw him drink.
Hello and Welcome!
Your past cham died of natural causes at 1 year old???
Yes, I usually let my chams settle in for about a month. That gives them enough time to relax
the temp in his cage is 60 deg, or the temp in the air is 60 deg?
If its 60 in his cage, thats way way way too cold.
He will continue to turn black and hide until you learn to take better pictures of him!!![]()

how do you measure the basking spot temps?
Can you take a pic of the entire cage please?
I know with my Jackson's when I took her to the Vet, she turned almost pitch black like that because it was so cold in the Vet's office. So that low temp. may be contributing to that at night.
During the day, it's harder to say without a more detailed account of your enclosure.
He was black when he arived. I opened the box and i saw him he was pitch black. I havent seen him be green sense i got him.
