Well its been a few months now since i applied (online applications ive never once had any returned responses) and a Petco manager called me last week for an interview. I went in for the interview and got the job and i started today. Right now im in my 2nd year of college focusing on a zoology major/biology minor. I'm just working 20 or so hours a week just to make some extra $ and out of all places i'd rather work with animals being its something i'll be doing for a living for the rest of my life and Petco was the only place to call me back so i said why not. Before i applied, i was always skeptical of buying anything from Petco because of the conditions ive seen their animals in. I cant begin to tell you how many veiled chameleons ive seen with severe mbd in that store and every time i'd tell an employee and they wouldnt do anything about it. I'll be "specializing" in reptiles and aquatics so at the location im close to im gonna clean up the mess some of those other misinformed employees have made, especially with the reptiles. I was looking through the care sheet information Petco encourages the employees to tell their customers about proper care for veiled chameleons and there were some things that were way off track. It didnt stress the importance of supplementing at all. It did mention gutloading crickets but they said for us employees to quote "Make sure the chameleons always have a full bowl of live meal worms as meal worms are a key insect to keeping chameleons healthy and growing". When i read it i actually translated it as "Make sure the chameleons always have a full bowl of mealworms to eat all day so they can get severly impacted ". Most chameleons i see in there are are 2 months or younger in age and the last thing they need it a staple of non-gutloaded mealworms. The care sheet mentioned the need for a dripper but nothing about spraying. Now dont get me wrong Petco is a great store and a good working environment so i hope you guys dont hold it against me that i work there
. I know some of you including myself have roasted on the advice "the guy at the pet store" has given but any time im working im wont be another one of the "pet store guys" giving out bs info. So hopefully with me working there i'll be able to clean the slate alittle bit lol.
