I was wondering how breeder who may have 2 pair of chameleon keep track to keep them from in breeding with is sister or brothers. with bird we have Band that we put on leg but with a chameleon, not sure...

I ask because i plan in November to get 2 pair of Chameleon Panther and I start to wonder even if the owner of the store say he get them from 2 suppliers. There is no way for me the really verify if they are sister and brothers, I guess i will have to buy from different suppliers if i want to b sure... still be cool if there was a way to verify, a way to tag them like birds

Right now, i am building their cages... still have time to see what i will do..

It sounds as if you have never had chameleons before. I get the feeling you are just interested in breeding them as a business. Trust me, they are really expensive to raise properly!

Chameleons are all individuals, especially a species like panthers that have markings and different colors.

A reputable pet store should be able to at least show you the paperwork from when they "ordered" them in, to prove to you that they are not related. If they refuse to show you the paperwork, you can bet they are indeed related.

That is the idea to breed them, I breed a lot of birds, Got a 4 years old panther chameleon i babysit for 6 months a years when the owner go to Florida. I am getting well inform, I understand they are all different, still there is no system in place to track and keep it clean. in breeding develop complication, same for the birds.. that is why i am asking how breeder keep control over this.

I use to do microchip for all my Macaws. this way with a reader you can easily see the history of that bird from medical to the time it was born on top of the band.

But breeding Chameleon seem very interesting. Got mostly all the equipment, Cages .. waiting for after my cruise in October to acquire 2 pairs...

still. they rely on the breeder info.. nothng you can really check other than by word

But they told you that they could order from 2 different suppliers, they should be able to prove that they kept true to their word.

That is the thing, I dont really trust the 2 store i am going to, going to a reptile show in Mississauga Ontario this afternoon, hoping to make contact with a few breeder..
