Now I realize this is a well spoken about topic on the forum but I am running into this issue on my end. Have a 18x18x36 screen cage setup for a Jacksons Chameleon. Want to get the humidity up but it keeps hovering around the 43% mark.
I have a large live Pothos in there, have covered 3 sides with shower curtains and have a mistking for misting but the humidity levels are constant.
My misting duration is a total of 10 mins a day broken down into 8 schedules using a timer. So the cage gets misted pretty well but doesn't flood and it drys out pretty well before the misting schedule goes off
I have 2 digital Hygrometer/Thermometer combos and 1 analog hygrometer. All show similar levels of humidity. My analog hygrometer is calibrated via the cup-of-saltwater-in-air-tight-bag method. So I believe my readings are right.
Amibient temps ar around 75 deg. My basking spot is 85 deg. but the humidity just won't budge.
I can try to hook up a humidifier to see if that helps but before that I wanted to see if you folks have any other ideas I can try.
Also, has anyone tried out those hygroballs? What if i hydrated them, put some of them in a plastic tray (cover with mesh or something so to avoid the cham from accessing it) and put it at the base of of the cage. Would that help with an increase in humidity? has anyone tried that method? Any instructions?
Note - its an older photo. The habitat now has shower curtains on 3 sides and the water bowl is no longer at the bottom of the cage
