Free Ranging questions

So I'm starting to free range with Jose to make him a bit happier, and I have a few questions.

My main question is how often should I free range him? Since this is the first week I started I'm thinking twice a week, Monday and Saturday.

I want to get a real plant, but I'll probably end up killing it :/.

Also how long? I just put him on there for an hour and let him back in his cage.

There's no right or wrong way to do it, really. If I only have an hour to let them wander then that's all they get. However, if they're in a safe room, or somewhere I'm going to be all day then they could be out for hours. Just use your best judgement. If he is there many hours several times a week then maybe get an extra set of bulbs to hang over the FR.

how old is he ? it really does depend on how long you want him to f.r. but id say you supervise him the first times .. see how he acts to being free and if you think he can handle being alone well then set it up for him. make sure you take away any thing that he can kill himslef with..no heat bulbs to wear he can climb on them ...or any open vents on the floor if you have those jaja.
as for aplant you can get a ficus tree for cheap price just water it and give it sun light i doubt you can kill a tree hope this helps u.

mine have free ranged since i got them at about 2 months old...
