Ive been reading EVERYWHERE that its bad to feed your chameleon big foods, about a rule of thumb or something. what happens if you do? and what size should i be feeding my cham?

Well, what happens to you when you put one big hamburger in your mouth without biting it? ;)
The general rule is to feed your chameleon food which is smaller than his head.. Slightly bigger can sometimes be accepted but really big things are simply dangerous as they can get stuck in the throat...

I feed my chamaeleons with insects of all sizes (in this case for Ch roperi) everything from small cricets and flies to adulte dubia and grasshoppers.. but mostly Gryllodes sigillatus sized inscts...

You should not feed your chameleon anything larger then the space between his eyes. Feeders that are to large could get caught in the the throat and choke your chameleon.

Feeder Size ??

I prefer to use these crickets cause I can see them go down by following the light!!!

The possible exception to the rule is very soft-bodied insects, e.g. hornworms and silkworms. With the others (roaches, big locusts, etc.) you've got an animal faced with something large and crunchy, and nothing with which to manipulate it except its mouth, and that doesn't work so well.
