Crickets Hiding

Hi,

When I free-range crickets in my Reptibreeze, most of them climb straight to the top of the cage, and they hide in the top corners of the cage. My chameleon never seems to find them when they are hiding there-- They even stick their heads in and you can barely see them.

Is this normal, and is there something you can do to plug up the holes in the corners?

It's normal. Crickets like to hide underneath things and inside crevices. I just used pieces of paper and stuffed them into the corners so the crickets don't make their way inside. Mine climb to the top as well, and my Chameleon knows that's where he goes for his cricket buffet!

I tried stuffing paper towel in there and eventually it would come loose or they would find a way to dig it out, so I eventually filled mine with hot glue as well. I also took advantage of how much glue I could get in there (thinking stability) and opted to lodge a couple bamboo poles in it while the glue was mushy. This way I had a little extra stability for my horizontal sticks.

Most live feeders are going to hide as best they can. I hate crickets because for a lot of reasons, among which is that they climb to places my lizards can't get them. I love dubia roaches because they are terrible climbers and have so many other advantages. I get mine at http://discountdubias.com/
