Color of cham?????

im in hawaii right now and everyone here says they have jackson chams that change colors to there surounding so say a cham is on purple it will change purple blue on blue etc. is this true. i thought they change colors to moods. thanx everyone

Its most definatley NOT true! Chameleons change color based on mood. A species that is more towards the ground may have more brown, but if they went on a red surface, they wouldnt change. It is based on mood.

Well, its not entirely mood. It's also health, and for certain actions.

-If a jacksons chameleons is hapily crawling through a tree, he is likely going to be greem the same colour of the leaves.
-If a Jacksons chameleons wakes up just after sunrise and is basking to absorbe the heat, it is very likely that he'll walk out into a clearing between the dense leaves, and trun darker, brownish, just the brown on the branches that he is standing on.

So, its very easy to understand why some people say its based on their surroundings. And for soem chameleon species, it may actually be moreso than you think.
