Breeding Oustalet's?

Hey I wanted to hear from some people who have bred Oustalet's chams before. I am wondering how I will know when the female is receptive to the male? My Veiled female definitely lets me know if she is ready or not by her actions and color. Are Oustalet's females the same? I recently got a female for my male and out of curiosity I put them near each other hoping for some kinda reaction but there really wasn't one. She did not change color and did not act aggressive or receptive but she did walk away from him. He of course was head bobbing and trying to get to her but I did not let him as I don't want to breed them till she gets a little bigger. She is 11 1/2 inches, 70 grams and 11 months old. The male is over 2 ft, weighs a pound and age is unknown. I've tried looking on the internet some and tried looking in books but I haven't found anything about female receptiveness and not much about breeding either(just the basics like how many eggs are laid, what temps to incubate, how long they incubate) I did come across something interesting though in one book. It said this species (the opposite sexes) are often found near each other in the wild and that they can be kept in pairs or trios in captivity if you have a big enough enclosure for them. I keep mine separate but has anyone kept them like that? Any info or tips on breeding would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance:)

Well-I wish I could be more help-but I cannot get mine to breed. I have a 2 1/2 year old CH male (with only one eye he can see out of), and a 2 year old-ish WC female. I have put them together over the years and they hang out, but they have separate cages. 3 weeks ago I noticed Oscar head bobbing for the first time ever so I put their cages together and he made his way into hers. Emerald is totally receptive-she turns beatuiful light shades of green-and never ran away from him, he approached several times then chickened out. I left them together until last weekend, and then separated them because they essentially stop eating when living together.

My oustalets mated about a month ago. If you will check out the chameleon breeding section under Female oustalet pics - receptive and gravid - it will show what my female looked like when I orignally got her, when she became receptive and her colors when now that she is gravid. Maybe they will help in determining when she is ready. good luck!

First I want to give you a link to an article i wrote:

Further I can say with my oustalets that the females changed color when she was ready to mate. (And ofcourse showed the long nails as written in the article). But there are
different color morphs and the coloration differs per morph.

I do have some pictures but not on this laptop. Maybe I'll search for them.

I read the article thanks for sharing it! I think maybe she is receptive right now? She has super long nails and she does sometimes look the color I saw in reptimom's photos of receptive color when Rex is around. Most of the time without seeing Rex she is just green. I guess I thought there would be more of a color change as it is very subtle. I don't know about breeding her though (right now) because she seems so small compared to Rex and I've had her less than a week. She does seem to be settled in her new home though. She seemed settled as soon as I put her in her new cage, lol! She went right to drinking and eating then basking. Every day she sees me she comes to the front begging for food:) She also has a favorite perch during the day and a favorite perch at night while sleeping. The male that came with her I wish was the same way but he is not adjusted yet and I find him upside down on the ceiling a lot and not in happy colors. It gets a little better every day. I hope he adjusts fully soon before I worry. I will post a pic of Rex and the new female for size comparison. In the pic they are sitting on me and Rex is head bobbing under my neck trying to get her and she is just looking around like "what the heck?" She is not used to be held. Putting them on me in front of the mirror was the only way I could think of to take a comparison photo without him getting to her too fast.

This is the female. Not sure if you can see how long her nails are in the pic.

Well I guess I might know that if I did not have a HUGE female! :) My male and my female are equal in size.

Here is Emerald now-full adult coloration.

Here she is when I first got her at approx. 10-11 months-she is WC.

I know what you mean, he looks like he would break her in half! I read that females are usually 12-14 inches as adults. This little girl is almost 12 inches now. How big is yours Julirs?

hahahaha Then you have a huge female or a small male. The oustalet's shown in the picture are about identical to my pair.

I have only bred them once and no he really wasn't that aggressive like some other species . She became receptive again but the male showed no interest at all .

I will try and post pics of mine together if i can.My female has a bit of an edema now i had to change the gutload on her crickets to just fruit and greens, It shrunk drastically within a day or two but still has some swelling.

Here's a pic i just took sorry so crappy batteries were enough for two pics not to mention she is displaying gravid colors because she just laid an infertile clutch but you get the idea of size difference

Yeah the size difference is the same. Good to know they aren't aggresive during mating! The first time I put my veileds together it was very crazy! He almost jumped on her and they went crashing down through all the leaves and vines in the cage and when she moved away he actually grabbed her tail and pulled her down to him so he could mount her again! The last time they bred wasn't like that though. They just went to it immeadiately and it wasn't aggressive at all.

12" total? My female is 8" nose to vent-so probably about 16" total.

Julirs too bad you live so far from me. Think what huge offspring your female and my Rex could make! They would be like dinosaurs!
