Black feet

Hello! I recently noticed the balls on my chameleons feet are stained black. I’ve seen black spots can be caused by certain diseases but there’s no spots just his feet. Could this be staining from branches/fence he climbs sometimes or something more problematic?

I'd agree with trying to rub or rinse a pad first. Look closely at the skin itself. If the skin shows the normal texture of a foot pad it probably is staining. If there was some disease process going on, most likely you would have noticed swelling, redness, sores, disharge, or peeling before the surface turned black. Black suggests tissue necrosis. Signs of infection would probably have been present before turning black.

Thank you this was helpful. He’s skin looks pretty normal but I will try and rinse off and see what happens
