Bird cage

Has anyone ever used a bird/parrot cage for a cham habitat? would that parallel bars be to cumbersome for it to traverse around it or would I have to use some sort of liner on the inside for it to get a better grasp, sort of like that green gardening plastic fencing? or even a ferret cage ?

I've used bird cages for outdoor basking. The bar orientation isn't a big issue if there are branches or plants inside. But, if the bars are so far apart the cham can get its head through them it could hurt itself. The nice thing about bird cages is that the bars are smoothly finished...no burrs from welds or galvanizing.

I have a big bird cage that I converted to an outside sunning cage for one of my daughter's panthers.

Hi
I used to use large bird cages. They are excellent. The bars provide extra climbing options in addition to the normal branches, vines and plants.
Ovbiously, like with screen cages, if the humidity or temperature outside the cage is wrong, its harder to keep the inside of a wire cage the right humidity and temp. And with wider spaced bars free-ranging some insects is problematic (they ca escape).

we just picked up a bird cage on a stand with wheels so i can move it around outside.(want to make it my outside cage). my question....do the bars get too hot for his feet. i'll have vines and a plant in there.

If the wire is getting too hot for his feet, I dare say the weather is too hot/ the location is too hot for the chameleon. Ensure shade is provided when outside.

I just converted a bird cage into an outdoor enclosure, and I have a larger second one in the works....I actually screened mine in. I was afraid he would squeeze between the bars. I hot glued the screen to the outside of the cage, that way he could not eat the glue and left the bars climbable from the inside. I do have feeder escapees, but I just feed extras, plus his staple meals are cup fed.
