Best, inexpensive way to water crickets?

Forgive me if this info can be easily found already, I tried. I have always kept rodents for feeders and have no experience with crickets. My baby cham is coming Wed morning and I want to pick up some crickets tonight and start gutloading them. I have found a lot of contradicting info on watering the little crawlers though. Some say a dish is good... some say they will drown. Some say get crystals... some say they are garbage, etc. Soooooo what do you say? Thanks.

I don't use crickets very often but I hydrate my Discoid Roaches by placing a wet paper towel in shallow lid of some sort. This, and fresh fruits and veggies, will keep them hydrated ;)

I like the water cubes "cricket jello" as we call it. fluckers makes good ones and they dont dry out fast from sitting out.

Either way is ok. You can also buy those throw away water pillows. Its basically the crystals inside a little pouch. I use the fruits & veggies and water crystals. But if i run out I use the paper towel method also. Cant go wrong either way. Good thing about the paper towel thing is you can throw them away every day when they get nasty and paper towels are cheap.;)

I use mandarin orange slices. They last a couple of days :)
I used to put the Flucker's stuff, but the Yellow #5 is a know carcinogen found in that jelly stuff (and many candies, too) so I rather not feed them the jelly, imo.

They make clear water crystals also that dont have any dye added to them.;)

I use a sponge so that they can't drown. I've seen crickets die in a drop of water all the time lool.

I use the plain crystals too - I make 1 gallon at a time, and just use it as needed. Since I gutload with bug burger and other veggies I'm not too worried about a lack of nutritional content. I pour it into the plastic lid from a 1 gallon container, and heap it full - it usually lasts as long as the crickets do :D

"Water crystals" are made for exactly this reason...

they will drown in TINY drops of water and I mean drops!

I use regular orange slices, I just take the extra effort and peel away the skin so that the crix have direct access to the juicy fruit inside and swap it out every few days so that it doesnt rot and smell. same thing for grapes or apple slices. But those blue flukkers water crystals work fine as well.

The storefront dispensaries all closed. There are few outside city-limits and home-grow operations are still legal. Not that I would know about any of that though! ;)

Thanks! We eat a ton of oranges here as well(at least my GF does, note above, I am a junk food kinda guy.) so that is another great option to try.

oranges are a necessity for me and the vitamin c will also benefit your cham a little as well, just take them out when they dry up or mold, i also use a little of the flukers calcium enriched jelly crystal things :p and whne i run out of oranges, i use apples :)

I use water crystals, can purchase it already done, I use bug gel by ProRep or bye it in crystal form and make it up on your own. Are as some have said use oranges. I have seen youtube videos of using wet sponges, personally I wouldn't advise that, I just think the crickets will nibble the sponge and eat it.
