    Growing up Veiled

It's pretty amazing what a difference almost two months can make. From 2 grams to 30! This was Al when I unpacked him on March 22nd: And this is him now:

    Definitely a lover of sun

In the earlier part of the day some sunlight angles through a window and hits part of Alhazen's cage. He loves sitting in these sun spots after his morning feeding and misting session. He really seems to know the difference between artificial and real sunlight, even if the latter is filtered...

    New Veiled Arrival!

I just picked up this little guy from the Fedex hub! He's so tiny and very adorable. Hopefully he'll settle in comfortably, and has been perched at the top of the cage taking everything in. Quick pictures for now. I didn't want to stress him too much after his journey.

    Tropic Blaze fixture

Just set up the new Tropic Blaze fixture and I love it. Everything is nice and bright. I'm glad I bought it when I did, since I decided to get a new chameleon sooner than I was planning. Now everything is how I want it and ready for when the little guy gets here on Tuesday.

    I'm so sorry Monty

I had to put down Monty today. The vet said that while we could attempt treatment, he believed it would just be prolonging his suffering. The gout was everywhere and the vet doubted his kidneys would have held up under the medicines, combined with the stress of administering them. I wish his...

    Possible gout?

My problem child of a rescue continues to gather more issues. For the past week, week and a half, he's been fairly sedentary and has been dangling feet off branches more than he used to. A few days ago he started shedding and I noticed his front left foot has a rather swollen ankle. I'm not...

Husbandry Double Check Before Vet Visit - Long post

I’m taking my rescue guy in for another vet visit on Friday and I want to double check that my husbandry is set so that I’m not contributing to any of the issues he’s been having. He’s the veiled I’ve mentioned in the below threads, but I’ll recap a bit here. This turned out to be a long post...

Fake Christmas tree as part of free range?

Might be a bit of an odd question, but could a fake Christmas tree be used as part of a free range? This is the one I would be using, obviously with lights and ornaments taken off: The few mentions of Christmas trees I was able to find here included worries about the fake needles, but this...

    Recurring Impacted Sperm Plugs

I just dropped off Monty at the vet to have another set of impacted sperm plugs removed. He's been off food for more than a week and been straining to pass the plugs since yesterday. When I first got him a month and a half ago he had the same problem, so the vet is concerned that the previous...

    Monty's Enclosure Upgrade

Finally got Monty the 24x24x48" size cage he needed and got it all set up. There's so much more room and he's already roaming around and checking everything out. I'm hoping the extra height he has available will give him more security. Once the pothos grows out he'll have more foliage cover up...

    My Blue Tongue Skinks

Just thought I'd show my two two Blue Tongue Skinks. It's been interesting seeing the differences between a semi-fossorial, scent focused lizard and an arboreal, sight focused lizard. Obviously their physical adaptations are very different, but their mannerisms are also very neat to compare...

    Quad vs. Double light fixture

I've read great things about the Arcadia bulbs and fixtures from Lightyourreptiles.com, so I've been doing research in preparation for upgrading. I was first looking at the 24" double fixture that has a 12% and 6.5k daylight bulb, but the four bulb fixture caught my eye. Is there any benefit to...

My rescue Veiled getting some sun

Here's my rescue guy getting some natural sun a few weeks ago. You can really see the difference between his good eye and the bad eye he's blind in.

Rescued an adult male Veiled today, advice appreciated

Today I took in an adult male Veiled Chameleon from a man whose son had left it in his care. He seems to have several health issues and I would appreciate any advice as I research. He took the chameleon to the vet a few days ago (I heard about him from a friend who works at the vet office)...
