On Friday, we lost Pixie my female Panther. I got her in Sept 2016 when she was around 6 months old. She hadn't been herself for almost a week, but she suddenly went downhill and died shortly after. At least she died at home and didn't gave to endure countless futile vets visits. I take comfort...
Recently visited our local zoo. They do a lot of work rescuing tigers and we saw the 5 new tigers that had recently been rescued from a circus in Spain. They were kept in awful, cramped conditions and punished if they did anything wrong. It's so sad that people treat these magnificent...
This week I have made a couple of new enclosures for my Martinique Pink Toe tarantulas, Stompy & Strider. I bought 2 5.8l Braplast tubs and set about creating their new homes. I had planned to cut sections from the lid and one side to create ventilation panels by hot gluing thick plastic...
Found Pixie sat in this pose the other day. She looks like some nudey cham pole dancer! :D I couldn't stop laughing when I saw her like this, I had to capture the moment!
My new little girly spider arrived this morning. She is a Regal Jumping spider (Phidippus Regius) the same as my beautiful Bella, who died at the start of the year. I'm so happy to have another sweet jumper girl, she's adorable! Everyone meet Poppy!
I came home from shopping today to see Pixie had pooped and laid a single tiny egg! She has had a lay tub in her viv since I got her in September 2016. I've covered the front of her viv for now.
As requested by @Twitchet , here's a thread with photos of all my tarantulas! I have 7 now, the latest arrived just yesterday! So.. here goes!
First up, two Caribena Versicolors (Martinique Pink Toe). Can only get pics of one as the other hides a lot. This is Stompy, who is now a moult ahead...
As you may know, my sweet jumping spider, Bella, died earlier this month. I wasn't sure what to do with her tiny body, and someone suggested resin casting. I thought about buying a kit to cast her myself, but at the same time I was well aware that I would only get one shot to do it right. Then...
Yesterday, I finally held Bella, my Regal Jumping spider, for the first time. It was amazing and I should have been brave enough to sooner! Could only feel her when she moved she's so beautiful! Here's a video I took. I am so proud of myself! It's taken 8 months to pluck up the courage to do...
My 4 year old grandson asked to hold Pixie today. He loves her too! She's been showing these colours permanently since Halloween and looks to be going into shed again too! Do chameleons undergo a 'pre-lay' shed like snakes do?
A few pics of Buster. I actually let him sit on the edge of his open tank today. I usually panic if he gets too close to coming out. I even held my hand out right next to him but he wouldn't climb on me. Next time I hope we are both brave enough!
Today, being Halloween, Pixie obviously had the subconscious thought that she should present herself in the right coloured clothes. Here she is sporting a lovely combination of orange & black! On a serious note, I'm guessing these colours have something to do with eggs.
So, since I got my two Versicolor tarantula slings, I've found spiders more fascinating. I decided I wanted a terrestrial species that I would see sat in the open more. Started researching like mad and decided on a Brachypelma Emilia. Luckily my local exotics shop had one in so I went to look...
