PVC is slightly cheaper.
You might be able to get away with 1/8inch extruded, as the height won't be much? 1/4 would be fine, 1/8 would be a test I am not sure.
Menard also carries HDPE, which will also work.
Just play with them and see which you prefer, from a rigidity standpoint. Just be...
Ya I was working on a soil bin blog post. However I was really trying to find a suitable soil bin without DIY and then a DIY guide for more custom needs.
Really depends, on how thick you are using.
I thjnk Dragonstrand used Solid PVC sheet for their substrate trays. Doing that you get thin material and rely on the solvent weld.
Or you can use Foamed PVC, and use a thicker piece and screw and glue it. This is cheaper, but to get the thickness...
Silicon doesn't stick to PVC.
You have to use PVC glue to seal the PVC pieces together, which are a chemical weld, they melt the plastic together and only smell for a minute or 2.
Don't know those brands or what is in them.
Basically you want.
Base: Coco Coir / Peat Moss
Drainage Helper: Orchid Bark, Shredded Bark, Perlite, Grow Stones, Lava Rock, Tree Fern Sticks whatever.
Moisture Rentention: Sphagnum Moss.
Then if you want additives like Natural Ferts, Charcoal...
Dragonstrand use to make one, seems no more sadly.
You can make one from PVC sheet your local HD might sell it, if they do it isn't that tough.
You can make one that the cage sits on, instead of inside. You can make that from wood and flex seal it very well.
Thanks.
So guess good time for update!
They have both eaten 1 adult Red Runner dusted with Calcium Plus. I gave them 4, they ate 1 each and left the other 2. So either they weren't too hungry or thats normal meal for them idk. However that was the other night 3rd night after arrival. They ate...
Problems are,
A. The silicon and coco fiber will fall off, little bits over time.
B. The Humidity is what is going to cause the most rot issues. Which is why its important to seal well. The silicon and coconut coir will not stop the humidity from getting behind the foam.
To each their own and...
Yes, I realize that. The issue is the silicon and coconut coir will also not make that waterproof.
You did that backwards hate to tell you that, but its the reality. The enclosure needed to be waterproofed before you greaf stuff.
The soil bin? I think you skipped a step.
Actually a few, because that Great stuff is NOT going to waterproof that backboard. That backing is going to rot, during the life of that Veiled.
Did the vet do a fecal? I seen a gecko doing something similar in a gecko group awhile back, 2 cases the one video and someone with a past experience. Both cases were extreme parasite loads, both cases died. If you didn't get a fecal do that.
