They're about 1 1/4 inches or so...I haven't let them walk on a tape measure. They are six weeks, I think; Mike said they were hatched July 28th, maybe?
OK, so after we recovered from the brev/egg incident, I finally decided to go with another brev. Talked to Mike at FLChams, and decided to get three. My son Drew's birthday is Tuesday (he bought the original brev), so I'm trying to hide them until Sunday, when we have our family party. They...
Yes, you are right, that's a great article. That one and the other one Roo did on the habitat for brevs are bookmarked, and if they were paper they'd be worn out by now! I looked on the Kingsnake classifieds and didn't see but a couple and one was LLL. Jerm, I don't blame you for wanting to...
I have a ten-gallon tank w/ a back wall of expanding foam, covered w/peat moss/cocoa husk/weldbond; driftwood sticking out of the back into the tank. Bottom DID have a drainage layer of styrofoam peanuts, covered w/cocoa husk, covered w/moss and leaf litter crunched up. Tank is empty right...
I'm feeling pretty bummed about losing my female pygmy, then the egg/hatchling....but I still really like that species! We really don't have room for one of the "starter" chams, which is one reason I let my son buy the brevicaudata.
I did a lot of research before we brought her home, and I...
Will, that is so cute...and it makes me cry....'cause my baby's lying curled up like he's still in his egg. Guess we'll bury him later today, when Drew gets home.
The little guy is definitely dead. My son is crushed. I would rather the egg have not been fertile....and the thing looks so cute! I hate to try again. I know the guy at the shop is still trying to find another stump-tail, to replace the original female; but maybe we shouldn't take a chance...
I "hatched' the little guy and I'm pretty sure he's dead. Looks perfect....so cute and pretty stripes! He surely would have moved at some point if he were alive. I'll go ahead and keep him in the critter keeper tonight, w/some damp paper towels and twigs. I can't believe he developed so...
Well of course my mom needed her camera back....but the egg is more shrunken and yellowed. I think the odds are pretty slim that the critter's going to make it. I'm not sure what you meant, Will, about the dilemma...we WERE planning on keeping the hatchling its whole life, since we had been...
Well, after CAREFULLY prying back one of the flaps, there's somebody home....but it doesn't seem to be moving. I'm not sure what to think, whether to open it up all the way, or let it be. I guess I'll let it be for now. Kids aren't home right now, and I'll be somewhere else when they get...
We first noticed the shrinkage and slits yesterday about noon. I may see if I can open up one of the flaps....it would be a family tragedy if the thing died now!:(
Heika,
Should I help it? Would it hurt it? It's not progressing right now....I might be able to open the shell a little without touching the critter....
Here is a pic of the egg...no macro lens, sorry. You can see the shrinkage on the egg. The mystery lump is visible on the left. This morning there doesn't seem to be any change; I figure he's resting (?).
Checking on the egg a few minutes ago, it is showing considerable shrinkage and there are a couple of hairline cracks on one end! What now???!!!! My kids are freaked about leaving it in the incubation container too long. We need to put it in a small container, right? How small? There is a...
Wow...that's sad, Heika. Yeah, that's kind of what mine looks like, except the color isn't as yellow...it's more greyish white. Also, mine has different levels to it, since it has oozed at different times. The freshest ooze is a little gooey. I'm not going to open this up or do anything to...
Whew...that makes me feel a little better, anyway. My son will be relieved...I don't know how he'll handle it if he ever has human kids! :p I'll try to borrow my Mom's digi camera and take a pic. I'm pretty sure it's not "sweating" yet. We try to check it at least once a day, since we're...
OK, so my possibly-fertile brevicaudata egg has been incubating about 65 days now. Several weeks ago it developed "stretch marks", and one of them was a little wider than the others. I noticed a little matter coming out of it, but it became hard and didn't get bigger. I assumed this was a bit...
