    Pygmy Laying Eggs

My first brev laid one egg unexpectedly (we thought it was a male!), pretty much on top of the soil beside a rock. It was very soggy at that point (we hadn't got the hang of misting yet.) We placed the egg in vermiculite that was damp enough to clump, but not drip, in a ziploc container; we...

Veiled Chameleon very sick. Please help.

I'm so glad you got her to the vet, and that she seems to be OK! Hopefully the prolapse will heal and not recur, and she won't get an infection or anything. Good luck!:)

The Pygmy Palace is here, tell me what you think!

I like it! Lots of good hiding places and climbing stuff. Just be prepared to look for a good twenty minute before you find them...(that happens to me, even if there isn't a lot of cover...):D

That scorpion looks like someone stepped on him....:p

    digital ther/hygro probe

And the sensor is completely waterproof? I trashed a $25 Flukers digi therm/hygrometer with misting it...only had it two months, too. (hmm...deja vu..sounds like gonzalez's post....:p )

    Pygmies Shedding?

Roo, that's interesting about brevs maybe not shedding after they're full grown. I was thinking the other day that mine haven't shed in a couple of months, at least not that I've seen; I when they have before, it was pretty noticeable! Those are some healthy-looking, plump brevs, Cherron !:D

    zilla gut load question

gosh titan, I never thought to taste my gutload...of course, I don't even taste my kids' medicines before I give it to them. Does everyone do their gutloading like marc? I've been keeping the greens etc. in the cage with the crix the whole time. I don't usually have more than 250 crix in...

    parasites and wild animals?

I would guess that captivity itself, particularly BEING captured (and shipped) could stress an animal enough to make it more susceptible to any kind of infection--bacterial, parasitic, fungal, whatever. Whereas the guys that are cb or captive hatched don't have the stresses of adjusting to a...

    My Carpet's + Stuff

Chad, I usually buy my cork bark locally. You can order it from Black Jungle or some of the other poison dart frog sites...but it sure does cost! I haven't ever used a roll of compressed cork bark, b/c I like the little caves and niches with the natural stuff (I like to glue tillandsias and...

is my chameleon male or female

I think the main point is to move the basking lamp out of the cage; it's not too unusual for chams to burn themselves. I think Dave was also making the point that having it inside the tank makes the ambient (temperature not directly under the basking lamp) temp too high, partly b/c it's inside...

    Feeding Pygmy Chameleons

wow, Davy, you must have some kind of mood lighting on your tank! Congrats on your new pygmies; are they brevicaudata? Obviously they're adults; are they cb or wc?

    Need to prune back plants...

One of my brev tanks is becoming a jungle! The creeping fig is WAY out of control; I don't know how much UVB the chams can be getting! Of course, the necessity for UVB for brevs is unknown, but I bought the lamp....so they better use it! :p Seriously, getting them out to do some maintenance...

    Female Panther chameleon, Advise needed

In the US, anyway, you can buy PC fans separate from the computers. Try any electronics store, or online. Many people use them for saltwater fish tanks, and for keeping various reptiles and amphibians. You could just set it on top of the screen top to your cage (but not right over his basking...

    giant egg

Hieka, that pic hurts..:( looks exactly like what Leafy (our first brev...supposedly a male!) looked like. I'm still not positive it was the egg that killed her...but that looks like the results of my necropsy, too.

    Feeding Pygmy Chameleons

I am far from a pygmy expert; I've had mine for 8 months now. At the moment, mine are fed two or three crickets every other day. I dust with plain calcium every feeding, and Herptivite and calcium w/D3 twice a month. They are under UVB, but they have so much cover (gotta prune those creeping...

    Sudden Death

Maybe he ate a spider? Still seems like a long shot, but since you can't have a necropsy.... I'm sorry Bumble died.:(

Upper respitory inffection / Baytril Doseage.

Is your vet administering the Baytril? Are you just double-checking him, or are you medicating your cham yourself? I think maybe only Matt Wheelock would know the answer.

    pin worms?

Brad, you're probably right about the wild flies....rotting food might not be the best gut-load, either! But darn it, there are lots around...my dog hasn't learned how to shut the door yet!;) Yeah, I don't put a LOT of stock in pet store advice...but this guy generally knows what he's talking...

    pin worms?

What are the vectors of pinworms? I still would like to feed wild moths to my brevs, but my local pet store recommends against it, simply because of parasites. Of course, it might be irresponsible of them to say, catch all your food, but I'm sort of riding the fence on this. Which worms are...
