You simply buy a powder supplement to boost the nutrient of the feeders (crickets). You put a little bit of that powder in a plastic bag (like the one the cricket come in), add about 10 crikets and shake them in the bag until they are covered with the powder. I use REPTI CALCIUM (plain), REPTI...
It depends where you go. but a check-up visit should run you anywhere between $60-$100. just make sure the vet you see has had experience with chameleons. some are experinced with reptiles in general, but never treated a cham.... and that may nt benefit you or your cham.
Ok, is it 49F inside you house? ... a cham will be fine in 55f at night, but try not to let it drop more than that. you can put a towel, curtain or something over the cage so light does not go in when you are up whatching tv late at night.
Automatic mister is a must for me. Since i live in dry conditions (SoCal), i do have a humidifier setup in the Chameleon room to keep up the humidity.:)
Like jandie suggested, she may not be getting enough "dark time" to rest properly. do you keep the light on at night? ... make sure you turn off all the lights on her cage so she can sleep. I'm sure your house does not get too cold at night for you ...and her.
If you really want a plant for her right now, go to home depot and buy a ficus benjamina tree. you can re-pot the plant with organic soild (fertelizer free). It is a relatively cheap plant that is safe for chams.
Ok,... you got the Uvb lighting covered. make sure she has branches/vines about 6-8 inches below the light to bask and absorb the Uvb, the lightbulb is really not effective past 10-12in.
crickets are the staple feeders and should take about 50% of her diet, but Chams need variety. So try to get her small meal worms, wax worms, fruit flys (for small Chams), etc...
If she is already asleep, let her rest. you can post the pictures tomorrow morning when she is awake. in the meantime, fill up the "how to ask for help" questions.
Welcome to the forums! ...You'll find a lot of people here with experience keeping jackson's. I know there are people on here with better advice on how to keep one of these chameleons in HI. But I will give you some info to get started, but before i do so i must ask you some questions. Will you...
Oh, i noticed the cabinet is not deep enough. the cage's base is 24" x 24" , and the cabinet is only 19.75" deep. Wish it was exactly 24" x 24" to fit the cage perfectly!:p
Thanks for the info. I have two of those cages myself 24"x24"x48". I had a hard time finding a base that would fit them. I currently use the Florenzia end table (black) from Wal-mart.com, but the cabinet you found has more perks (concealed storage), for a better price.
Although all the baby Jackson's have little horns, males tend to be more promminent in comparizon to the females. they (males) also tend to grow a bit faster than the females (in my experience, but maybe that's just the blood-line i've work with). The hemipenal bulge is probably your best bet in...
