I have a ficus benjamina in my cameleon's cages. It is great, and it grew to the front (towards the plant light) and to the sides. It does take a while for it to grow, but it depends on the light and how you take care of it (watering, trimming, etc.)

I completely agree with Texas Panther Man.
I live in a city that uses all kinds of chemicals on their garden plants. So I would not risk feeding my chams anything found around here. If I went to the country, well, that is a different story. :)

Also, the grasshopper could have been exposed to pesticides (if it is wild).
I would be careful to give my chameleon insects I do not know where they've been and what they have been eating.

live plants are great in the cage. I personally like the ficus tree. you can find small ones that will fit in your cage for around $15-19 at Homedepot. Save your receipt just in case. They will replace your tree if it dies within a year.

That is awesome!!! ...have you thought about the material you'll be using for the walls? ....do you have a budget limit? ...the top has to be made of material that will not block uv light. Most glass tops actually block the uv rays, so make sure the glass/ acrylic etc you choose allows uv rays...
I would suggest for you to buy him the 24x24x48 cage instead of the 24x24x36. The cost for the larger one is normaly around $119. But i just found a reptibreeze Xtra large (24x24x48) for $99 with free shipping on EBAY.

I think she should eat a few more than 5 per day. Its is usually older chams that would be fine with eating every other day. --Is she carrying infertile eggs?
