Hi, lately I've noticed how sharp Jean-Luc's claws are! He has a SUPER strong grip, so his claws are actually puncturing my skin or leaving indentations. Anyone else have this problem? I thought his branches would smooth his claws down a bit.
Hi, I just use a normal house bulb like that, but 75 watts. You could try the 60 watts and give it 10-20 minutes and see how hot it is then. 75 watts has turned out to be perfect for mine, 100 watts had me worried about burns.
I was thinking about this the other day. I would say that my chameleon experiences only the most basic of emotions -- happiness (that is, the feeling when nothing is wrong in his little world), fear, anger, and stress. These are the very most basic emotions needed to survive and evolve as a...
The one I work at had their baby chameleon die today. I'm going to be talking to the manager about the care. I had the pet care manager tell me (for the jackson's before this one that died) that I could have bought him, like it was MY fault he was sick because I didn't buy him. But no way am I...
I think it's just a matter of variety within the species, some are straight, some are not. Of course, if I am wrong, someone here will say something. This board is very knowledgeable.
Yesterday my male veiled bit me...today he's eating from my hand! I never know what I'm going to get from him!
I handle him almost every day. Lately he's been more grumpy than usual, but it's hard to not laugh when he is reaching up to climb my face and simultaneously gaping at me.
Other trees are safe for chameleons too, so I'd do some research and see which bonsai you could use for your cham! Other trees just aren't commonly used because they get huge and are not indoor plants. So if you have the skills to make them bonsai, good for you!
If I were you, I wouldn't let whoever gave him to you this way get away with this. Try asking for your money back and if you're up to the challenge, keep him and try to improve his life.
One other thing I noticed, you're feeding crickets in the evening before his lights are turned off. If I remember correctly, this board recommends not feeding them less than 3 hours before bedtime. This is because they must have heat to digest. My chameleon once pooped out visible pieces of...
Oh yeah, he'd NEVER be out there in the bird cage without me right there keeping an eye on him! We have way too many birds of prey and cats. I live right next to a small wetland patch -- even one of our Stellar's Jays could eat him. I'll DEFINITELY add more plants. I have an idea of a better...
Mind if I jump in with a question/concern? I took my little guy outside, and I think it stressed him out. I have a birdcage for him to be in when he's outside (ONLY with my supervision), and he just kept trying to get out to get in the tree, and he was getting stressed out with me carrying him...
I don't have any pictures, but I have a confederate/star jasmine for my little guy (I looked up several sites that say it's ok). It's his favorite plant! it's grown vines up through the cage branches, he sleeps on it, and proceeded to eat all the flowers off it. It also smells great when it's...
It sure does ;)
Just to follow up, I think we are on to something with him thinking it's bedtime an hour before sundown. It's currently 7:24 here, and he is now in his favorite sleeping spot, awake, but in a sleeping position. I got home earlier today and he was totally normal and alert.
Just wanted to second what camimom said about the supplements. That picture of him on the ground really concerns me, as it could be the start of MBD (metabolic bone disease). Here's a blog post about it...
Well, the reason I said that is because I feel like I post for the littlest things, because I'm a new cham owner (new reptile owner, for that matter!) and I really don't want anything to happen to him.
Thanks, I'll do just that. I have a little planner anyway to remind me when to give him his D3 and vitamin. Thanks for being so patient and helpful with me, it helps to have this board to turn to when I'm being a little overprotective.
