Same here on the spider mites. I have had minimal issues with them until this last year. Good idea on the rocks, though. It'll help with water retention, too.
Note: posting this here because it's ultimately about treating for parasites.
I had the joyless privilege of pulling a roundworm out of one of my chameleon's bums this morning. She and I were both horrified. Obviously, her cage (and all my boys) will get a deep clean tomorrow and I'll collect...
Howdy, gang. I need some advice on a good feeder I can hang in my Jackson Chameleon's cage now that his tongue has been amputated. (Injury based. Worked with my local exotic vet to try and turn it around.) Just trying to get him to eat and drink on his own now. I am currently using Carnivore...
Oh, by the way, we weren't able to save the blobby bit at the front. He still has some tongue, as the vet wasn't prepped for a surgery. This might ve a good thing. I got water (carefully) in him today. Working on getting ingredients for bug juice. Thanks for the input, folks. I understand the...
I was looking for that recipe, so thank you. I should have gone with my gut and made some in the first place.
I think I understand what you're saying about how much tissue is left. I know it's nit a full amputation but I'm not sure what's left either. We've not tackled eating yet, but I got...
Thank you. I was directly hand feeding him at that point. It was hard to get it around his folded tongue to get into his throat. That's why it was traumatizing.
That said, he managed to swallow it again and I didn't notice in time. The vet wasn't able get his tongue out all the way. So, he's...
Another update: he swallowed it again. The doc is working on retrieving it right now. I have this weekend to choose how to move forward. Amputation or sutures. Not sure of part of his issue is neurological or if it's just physical. 😭
Thanks for the article! He's "ok." Drinking but has only eaten once. It was traumatizing for both of us. He has that "Damn, that looks tasty but...." expression.
Right now seeing his tongue is hit or miss. Sometimes I see it, sometimes not. He just won't open his mouth for me without...
My Jackson, Phineas, hurt his tongue. Not sure if it was over extended, bludgeoned while feeding, or what. He's been to the vet already for the inital look over and a secondary trip to retrieve a swallowed tongue. I just got him to eat a small hornworm for the first time in 5 days. I am so...
That's great advice on the UV. Thanks. I don't have a UV sensor yet and was concerned about that. I have a 5.0 HO in the fixture at the moment. I'm hoping to make use of these fixtures until I can get programmable ones. I have some nice, full spectrum, white, 24", LED lights that will up my PAR...
Thanks for the reply. I should have explained a bit more. This enclosure is not in its finished state, nor in its final location. The middle divider will be completed to the top and be "forested" with plants and an additional barrier for stability and blocking views. The outer parts of the cage...
Good day, folks! I recently acquired some Jacksons. I picked up an aviary and am working on dividing it for them. I have some questions.
I wasn't sure if I should wrangle plants or sticks in first. In my smaller ones I did sticks first so I did that here, especially since I was adding some...
I was planning on having a proper tray in the bottom that can catch water and plants in their pots can sit in. I also have a living wall setup that I think would work well. Drip system for plant watering and extra drinking locations. If I do any plastic sheeting, it'll be on the back for now...
A second option I was looking at. 27.5" square and 67" high. Both aviaries not only look nice (bonus) but have good accessibility and potential to be divided either horizontally or vertically.
