Winter hydration method that works for me.

Been pretty successful these cold winter mornings keeping Aquaman hydrated (40 degrees outside). I’m convinced in these colder months these guys do not like to get wet like in the summer. So I allow him to free roam out of his cage before watering his enclosure and his plants. When he comes...

Winter hydration method that works for me.

for a regular weekday, doing this takes care of watering the plants, hydrating the chameleon, and increasing overall humidity in the room (i usually air out first thing in the morning and humidity just drops)

Winter hydration method that works for me.

i’ve used this method if i’m to leave the house for while longer in the summer or if i don’t expect to be home for the weekend. Id put a buncha ice cubes in a tray that had a hole and put on top of the cage.

Winter hydration method that works for me.

His favorite spot to hang out while everything dries. Once dry he goes back inside lights on and off to work.

Winter hydration method that works for me.

In the past, I’d just setup a timer and run some sprinklers every so often but I was not sure if Aquaman was hydrating. Running sprinklers too often with the lights on was never good for the live plants either. I’ve found that turning off the lights then misting the cage for the plants worked...

    Musculature or gout? Panther chameleon

Yes he is definitely not the scrawny boi we had in the summer. He picked up some new orange and green colors too.

    Musculature or gout? Panther chameleon

I’ve posted before about Aquaman’s free range in our bedroom and I’ve noticed his grip is considerably stronger. I’m his tree person that when he says “let me out”, I open his cage and put him on his branch by the table. In photos I’ve noticed his legs have become thicc. I was worried in the...

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

I gave that a try actually, turning off all the lights and running the sprinklers plus using my handheld mister getting the enclosure super wet. He goes back on his own from the desk and he’s been drinking everyday since. He only does this in the morning and towards the end of the day...

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

Aquaman has only been going back to his enclosure to sleep and drink now. Not sure if he is mindfully going back for UVB as well so I’m still manually giving him UVB when out on his free range area just in case. Other free range news, I got some monsteras about a month back and have been...

Thanks for stopping by. One more question: Yawning or don’t like UVB time? 😅

And he is ready to roam. This is his usual path. For some reason, the cage door is always his first stop. He then looks at the newest added vines that I added to connect his enclosure to the curtain rod before he makes his way for it.

Still drinking and catching UVB with his cage door open. Roam free when you please little guy. Had me worried the last couple days (hydration is my top concern living in the desert)

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

He has not been enjoying the desert sun when I give him natural sunlight as it is always above a 100 degrees out there. In the other seasons, he loves natural sunlight, but in the summer, he climbs me frantically until he is in shade. So the artificial UVB in the summer will have to do.

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

Eureka!! Success!!! He is drinking! For the first time during his free range escapades 😅😓🥹 (the light is not flash, that is his spare T8 bulb following him around) 😆 3rd day’s a charm.

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

I’ve been misting his cage in the morning, afternoon, and right before bed to see if it would entice him to drink but no joy on that one 😅, he just climbs up looking to go back out on the free range or perch up top his cage. May have to lock him in to drink off the leaves, hornworms ain’t cheap 😆

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

Update: So the past 3 days, Aquaman has not been wanting to return to his enclosure and sleeping over on his free range setup. My 2 concerns are UVB and hydration. I do not yet have a fixed UVB lamp for the free range and I just manually use my spare T8 (his enclosure uses a T5 bulb) to...

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

I took your advice and got more vines and connected the top of his enclosure to connect to the top of our curtain. I also placed vines for him to easily move from branch to branch across the desk. He was excited for this one as he was not hesitant at all to give it a try 🙌. Not quite full time...

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

I offered a hand to Aquaman and he actually went on me voluntarily this time. I motioned to place him on his other branch but he refused. I’m guessing the free range spot may be too as it is a 104 degrees out and the window is quite hot even with the a/c blasting. Offered him the enclosure...

Started my Free Range setup for Aquaman

Early morning Day 6: Woke up to him already awake slowly moving around. Had to get a finger under him to move him into his enclosure. Wasn’t exactly voluntary as I placed my finger under him instead of him going to me on his own, which i’d like, but overall quite happy with letting him sleep...
