When I kept chams I used Country Club Pet Hospital in Mansfield. They treated a prolapsed hemipein and we did eventually have to amputate but the surgery went well and he was doing awesome last I heard. He went into another keepers breeding program about a year ago.
I did have a juvi female...
I am considering re-homing my male Ambilobe. He is about 18months old now and doing well. Time constraints with work and family are not allowing me to give him my full attention.
I would like to have someone local take him, his cage and lights and I would also provide a full Dubia and...
The picture I was easily able to find appears to be a male. When they are small it is easier to think of the tail into the body line. If it straight without a small indentention near the body then it is probably a male and if there is an indention near the base of the tail close to the body it...
I use a box with a dowel or stick inserted through both sides and taped in place from the outside. Then place damp/warm paper towels on the bottom of the box. Less stress than a clear container and most times when I get to the vet they are on the stick asleep or in resting colors.
Place the...
Variety is good but if he is eating 2-3 different staple insects you are fine and there is no need to worry. The biggest thing to concern yourself with is providing a well balanced gutload for the insects he will eat. Chameleons can and do survive very well on crickets alone and although it is...
Prickly pear cactus will probably be pretty hard to come by in Canada. In the south and west portions of the United States it is in the vegetable bins of the grocery stores most times of the year. I also have it growing near me so it is not hard for me to go pick some but I have never thought...
I use a product called Healthy Habitat from Natural Solutions. You can get it at most big box pet stores. It is a little pricey compared to a bleach solution, but it is safe to use while they are in the cage and has a plesant scent to it. It also goes a long way. I am still on my first 22oz...
I agree with reptoman that it is probably too much UVB and heat for a baby in a small enclosure but I do not agree with others that say it is not a suitable light for chameleons. Many breeders and zoos use MVB bulbs with adult chameleons with great success but they do need to be setup correctly...
Camera
I purchased mine from B&H Photo and Video. They may not have the best price but they are very competitive and you have to be careful as there is a lot of gray market stuff out there.
Stay away from any of the vendors that ask you to call in and verify your order only to try and...
The last one did not have but a few baby veiled chams and they were from one of those vendors that had a little of everything so betting there were not bred by them.
The one earlier in the year had a guy named Ryan there (no business name) and he had quite a few Panthers in adult size and baby...
It prolapsed on two different occasions. The first time it retracted after two days the second time it was out for 4 days and would not retract. The vet attempted to re-insert it manually but could not so advised on amputation to avoid infection and other complications. He was given Baytril...
I will try that tomorrow. He had a movement two days ago and it was small but normal. He is not eating as much as I would like him to either but hoping he will recover once the vitamins kick in.
Vet
I use Dr. Kendrick in Mansfield, TX. He has seen Chameleons in the past and is experienced with all types of reptiles. My hottest basking spot now is about 88 degrees as I raised the temp a little under his advice.
He seems to know a lot about chameleons and used to work for a zoo as...
My Panther Chameleon has been closing his eyes during the day since yesterday and I am concerned. He has been lackluster in eating recently so that has worried me as well.
I took him to the vet today since he was closing his eyes again and just not as active as he usually is. The vet said...
No drama from me. I look forward to seeing how he turns out in the looks department. I bet most people cannot be that precise about their own lineage (not chameleons). That would be years of cross breeding with many different locales to get to those percentages.
I would think that the first stressor would probably be the chameleon of a different species. Even tho the smaller chameleons are communal in nature they do tend to avoid other species even if they are the same size.
