The common cricket that most of us use as a staple has a relatively poor phosphorous to calcium ratio. The main reason to dust with calcium is actually to fix this ratio more than to provide dietary calcium.
Also, in the wild, there is significantly more diversity in food sources. In...
The reason that Veiled Chameleons are so cheap is very simple--PetSmart and PetCo carry them and have for at least 15 years.
They don't carry any other type of chameleons because 1) veiled are the most tolerant of improper care 2) chameleons are not good introductory lizards 3) they...
Yup. A big advantage of these are that they are modular. That means if you get a fourth tank down the road, you can switch to a large table and add another one by just changing the PVC connections.
I think it's worth the cost.
I current use the trays from LLLReptile. Here's a picture of my setup. These are for 16x16 trays but I also have a similar setup using 24x24 trays.
It's 1/2 inch PVC. I drilled a hole in the tray attached the fittings using PVC glue...
Does a large quantity mean something that will last for a long time or something to feed a lot of animals over a short time?
I usually have 1000 crickets on hand at any time. For large crickets, I use LLLReptile. They are very reliable and reasonably priced. I've been ordering crickets...
Don't worry about the crickets hiding, they tend to move toward any type of heat source and will like all end up at the top of the cage closest to the heat source.
Trying to find crickets is good exercise too.
I just started using a red Solo cup with the bottom cut out. I then hot glue fiberglass screening to the bottom. I use a hole punch to create a hole at the top and use a zip tie to create a loop.
I then hot glue about 8 pennies to the bottom of the cup on the side the hole is on. This lets...
Something worth reading if your considering using roaches as a staple. Be careful what you feed them. roach-revolution-revelation-theory-about-reptile-gout
The most important thing is to have good drainage. There should never be a large puddle of standing water. As long as you have good drainage, you can't mist too much.
In terms of whether its long enough, the best way to tell is depending on what the cham droppings look like. The urate...
I had a problem like this with one nozzle before when setting up a system. I removed the nozzle and flushed it out with water as best I could. That did the trick.
I suspect that a fleck of something was blocking the nozzle.
How long have you been running the drippers like this? How much pressure does the pump generate?
I tried to do something similar but the pump filled a reservoir. That way the pump only had to run long enough to fill the reservoir. I had lots of problems with air in the line.
Right now i...
Crested gecko diet with chameleons? I don't understand that. Did you use it as a dust or did you provide it mixed with water to drink?
It is not intended to be used dry. Allen has stated this repeated on the Repashy Forums. I've never heard it be suggested to use as a dusting either.
A cricket's lifecycle is typically 8 weeks. pin heads are generally freshly hatched, 1/4" are 1-2 weeks old, 1/2" are 2-4 weeks old, 3/4" are 4-5 weeks old, 1" are 6-7 weeks old. But temperature affects things a lot.
I'm currently using Repashy Bug Burger for feeding. If you feed a good...
To complete this thread, she laid a total of 14 eggs. She laid two eggs late in the day, then another 10 while the lights were out, and then two more in the morning.
She never dug at all, even while she was in a egg laying bucket with moist sand.
She's now got quite an appetite and is...
Sure enough I came home this evening from work and she's visibly less chubby and there is at least one egg exposed in the flower pot. I figure I won't dig around for the rest until tomorrow at least.
What do folks do after they lay in terms of food? I'm currently using Calcium Plus at every...
