    Fecal test questions

That makes sense, thank you for sharing that. I live in San Francisco – and for anyone in the Bay Area who searches this forum in the future for an exotic vet, here's my updated and running list: Exotic Pet Clinic of Santa Cruz 5400 Scotts Valley Dr Suite B, Scotts Valley, CA 95066 (831)...

    Fecal test questions

Oh man, I'm really happy to hear you were able to work that out with a local vet. I'm also worried about stressing out my chameleon! Sadly I called every vet in my city and nearby (more than 20 vets!) and they refused to do fecal testing without a physical exam. They didn't have any good reason...

    Fecal test questions

I have struggled to get a fecal test for my chameleon for a few reasons – (1) the nearest exotic vet is a 2 hour drive from my house, (2) all vets require that I make bring my chameleon in for a visit before doing a fecal test, (3) the quote for an exam + full fecal is ~$400 and (4) I don't...

    Restless & recent hunger strike

I went on vacation for two weeks and a housesitter stayed at my house to take care of my cat and chameleon. She fed my chameleon, Linguini, every other day using cups of roaches that I portioned in advance. She also dusted them with the necessary powders each feeding (see routine below). He ate...

How many UV lights to use?

Searching Chameleon Forums leads me to believe that for a 24x24x48" enclosure it's recommended to have a single T5HO UV-B lamp. But Chameleon Academy suggests that an enclosure of this height should have 4–6 bulbs for T5HO. (link, see "Lighting" section) Currently ordering new T5 lights for my...

First time taking WC veiled outside since homing him

Thank you @Beman for the blog, and thanks @MissSkittles for the detailed response! It sounds like yes, I am feeding him way too much. It's time to bring him in to a vet anyway to check for parasites since he's acclimated a bit to his new home. It seems as if he's not gained any weight and was...

First time taking WC veiled outside since homing him

I didn't consider that because it's so bright and I was focused on him! Great point... Next time I will move the tree further away from the windows on our deck. Thanks 😄

First time taking WC veiled outside since homing him

Also, I have no idea how old he is. Based on size, I've been told by a friend that he's maybe 1 year old. How can I know how much to feed him? I was doing 5-6 feeders every other day but he started eating all the pothos in his enclosure. Current Husbandry: Chameleon Info: Your Chameleon -...

First time taking WC veiled outside since homing him

I've been working through the "Building Trust with Your Chameleon" guide that @MissSkittles so kindly referred me to, and it's been going well! My veiled, named Linguini, is now happily eating crickets out of my hand each meal. He also started crawling up my arm to eat hornworms that I place on...

    Just urates?

Thank you sooo so much for the detailed response. It's really helpful and I love learning more. Will go ahead and improve my crickets' diet, mix up the staple feeders and upgrade the UVB bulb. It's currently about 12" from his basking branch because I was allowing space for his casque, but I...

    Just urates?

Thank you so much! He is not bloated anymore. He did a pretty enormous poop that I found later, which had fallen to the bottom of the enclosure. (not sure how to / if I can edit the original post title and pics. The photos were when he was bloating and he wasn't bloated today.)

New WC adult veiled male from FL

Yeah, he's not bloated today. I sent some pics to my friend who has a few wild-caught chams and he said that mine was likely just pancaking and it would go away. He also did a huge poop today.

Chameleon Info: Your Chameleon - Veiled chameleon, male, guessing ~1-1.5 years old? Wild caught in Florida about two weeks ago, mailed to my home on the west coast ~1 week ago. Handling - Not at all. He went straight from the box he was mailed in to his enclosure. I handled him for a few...

New WC adult veiled male from FL

@kinyonga I noticed last night that his stomach was quite distended and it's drooping a lot this morning as well. I'm worried that I may have fed him too much as I didn't find any poop in there today (although there are a ton of plants it may be hiding in). Does this bloat look normal?

I mistyped, it's actually Rep Cal Herptivite and it looks like it doesn't have D3.
