Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

Ok so from what i understood, there are two types of toxicities. One is from soluble oxalate and the other from insoluble. The insoluble is found in pothos, philodendron etc and the soluble in plants like begonia and some fruits and vegetables like rhubarb . “After ingestion, soluble oxalates are...

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

Hahahaha im pretty sure chams arent affected from those so they can chew in piece :p at least from pothos! So many factors are into play, some plants are toxic to cats but not dogs, some others to cats and dogs but not horses... Nature is complicated 😅

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

Correct me if im wrong though, i just googled searched those while trying to figure out why one is safe and the other might not be, i could definitely be wrong :p

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

thats what confuses me the most! Pothos causes kidney damage/failure (for humans dogs and cats) if consumed long-term or in big quantities, so does begonia. Its the calcium oxalate crystals in both that cause the toxicity

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

As Beman said, I can’t say for sure that my begonia is safe for chams to eat long term just because he didn’t immediately die or get sick. I can’t assume there haven’t been any consequences just because I can’t see a change in his health/behaviour rn. Because with that mindset it is veiled...

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

I meant not actually scientifically tested, but more empirically tested. Like from people having it in their enclosures for long periods of time and having veileds that have eaten it with no obvious long term consequences. The “official” list with the 100% safe plants is tiny, and there have to...

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

Oh no! A lot of plants on the list are very toxic to both cats and dogs so its extra confusing! Anyway, lesson learned! I thought i was checking my sources but i really wasn’t, still much to learn

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

I was referring to this one https://flchams.com/chameleon-safe-plant-list/ Even though chameleon academy is the only source i 100% trust ive seen this list a lot. Thinking back, maybe it was a mistake to take for granted that these plants are REALLY safe 🤔

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

And in case i wasn’t clear, i didnt make this post so that someone would tell me “ive had x plant and my cham is ok” and then i would go and add this plant in my enclosure. it’s just that im curious to hear other people’s experience on the matter.

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

I agree with you about begonias being toxic to cats and dogs but, the begonias on the safe plant list and several other plants seem to not be affecting chameleons. Monstera, pothos etc, pretty poisonous but chams have no issues with those. Ive heard mixed opinions about other kinds of...

Veiled tested plants that are NOT in the “safe plants list”

Hey everyone! My boy Donnie has been munching a lot the angel wings begonia (Begonia coccinea) that i have in his enclosure. I took the risk and included a begonia species that is not on the safe plant list after reading the post about safe plants at the chameleonacademy. I thought that since a...

Eyes closed during the day and lethargic chameleon :(

UPDATE Since i saw every single post on the health clinic before i asked my question just to see what could be going on with my cham, and whether the other chams with similar problems ended up dying or not (yes im anxious like that :p ) i thought its a good idea to let you know that lil Donnie...

Eyes closed during the day and lethargic chameleon :(

Yup!I already got him smaller crickets. I think now its the correct size because before he would eat 3-4 of the precious batch and now he eats 10-15 every day plus 1-2 worms as a treat so that he doesn’t hate me when i put his eyedrops

Eyes closed during the day and lethargic chameleon :(

I know eye issues are such a complex matter and “diagnosing” through the internet is just a guessing game. Still, im glad that you think that there might be something going on with his eye, its pretty reassuring compared to organ/kidney failure etc. Ofc only time will tell but im waiting at the...

Eyes closed during the day and lethargic chameleon :(

When i took him out of his container at the vet he was active and his eyes were wide open so she said that he is perfectly healthy and that there isn’t anything wrong with his eyes, that’s why she didn’t try to flush them :/ deceptive little guy! I am kinda out of options concerning vets because...

    Setting up my enclosure/lights issue

Yes! It’s so worth it indeed! And honestly if you want a chameleon at one point or another you need to spend a pretty hefty amount of money for the set up(plus vet bills) so you might as well do it from the beginning :p It took so much pressure off of me knowing that i started with everything i...

    Setting up my enclosure/lights issue

I got mine from ebay.de (https://www.ebay.de/itm/264729525840) , but since you don't live in Europe it's probably not the best idea :P Try amazon or ebay.com, maybe you can find it there? But i think the other members will be of more help to you 😊

    Setting up my enclosure/lights issue

The weather is very unpredictable unfortunately right now, three days ago it snowed and was -1C and now its 15 C during daytime, so thats definitely not an option... I will just get some other lights, use the MV for free range when he's older, and use the arcadia ones when they come. I wouldn't...
