i dont know if this will be like throwing gas on the fire, but for those of you that are critisizing the free ranges, what are you thoughts on keeping chams in a cage? most members on this site keep their chams in cages that are no where near as large as most of these free ranges.
i mean, i...
so after my little free range experiment today it seems oscar prefers the window plant to his cage. i used to just leave his cage open 24/7 with the door off and never have any problems with escape, but after hanging out in his window spot and putting him back, i caught him trying to make an...
i just repotted all my plants and used organic soil. it seems very fine with no large random chunks, so i didnt think it would be a problem keeping it uncovered. heck, it might be good for them.....
i just started letting oscar, my veiled, free range in my room today, by leaving the door off of his cage and adding a vine from it to my hanging pothos in the window. he hasnt gone anywhere else other than the pothos.
my question is: if it gets too dry/warm/cold will he know to go back into...
today i noticed oscar, my 6mth old male veiled has been pacing from his basking spot at the top of the cage to the cage floor. he doesnt stay at the bottom, but will climb down there, get to the bottom, and turn around and go back up. he does this almost every couple minutes he just started...
cage and free range setup
here is his current cage setup:
and here is his window next to the cage i plan on turning into a free range area for him to explore as he pleases....
ive been researching a lot on free ranging and plan on setting up a 24" uvb above the window along with a heat...

not that this is helpful at all, but i have a male veiled named oscar too haha
but if hes sleeping near the bottom of the cage during the day thats no good.
it could also possibly be a hormonal type thing hes just started. ive heard of males getting meaner/aggressive when they are looking for...
theres one in cleveland right by hopkins airport tomorrow from 11-3 i think. theres a cham breeder/seller there also with quite a few veileds and some panthers.
ive heard that its good to use hot water from quite a few members, but after also reading that chams can burn themselves on heat lamps and whatnot without evening realizing it, how can they tell if the water is warm or cold when they can't feel the extreme temps of a heat lamp? im not trying to...
what type of calcium is it? you need to use cal w/o d3 daily and w/ d3 twice a month. you only need to supplement vitamins twice a month also. i have a 4 month old male and he eats around 8-10 small-medium sized crickets a day.
