Today I got a full dose of this little girl's attitude since it was time to change out her flightless fruit-fly feeder! She is so funny.
Poppi definitely prefers the fff's over the tiny crickets or the mini-mealworms. She made it fairly obvious that I was starving her to death, because there was nothing in the vial (even though there are both crix and mealies in her bowl) by perching right on top of the vial and gaping at me and showing more way more color than usual. OOOH! She was mad!
As soon as I started reaching for the feeder tube, she turned plain green, started popping and took off away from my hand. When I pulled the feeder out, she turned around and went right back to the holder, started showing color again and gaping and popping. I guess she was letting me know that I am supposed to always keep two feeders going so I can replace the empty with a full one right exactly at the same time. LOL
When I pulled the plug on the fresh vial, I knocked a few flies off the cork into her feeder bowl, and she moved over to where she could see into it and stopped the gaping but not her popping. The entire time I was fumbling with putting some of the flies in the second feeder vial and getting it stopped back up and putting the new one in the holder for her, she was colored up and popping. When I was all done, she went back to plain green but popped at me until I closed the door on her viv.
After all of that show, I figured she would move right in on the feeder and start munching but not with me anywhere around apparently. She just perched there between her bowl and the feeder and didn't move until I was leaving the room.
Stubborn little twerp still won't usually eat or drink with anyone watching. I have only seen her shoot for food once and drink once. I have seen her nomming something a couple of times but when she realizes she is being watched she will freeze and even quit chewing until we aren't looking at her anymore.
The poo and urates still look good and she is growing like a weed so I know she is eating and drinking well and just have to be happy with that I guess.
