Trademark popping noise

I think it is kind of cute that she thinks I would be intimidated by this funny little noise she makes.

She juts her chin down (not out to the front at all really) and then pops her jaws together with her mouth closed the whole time. At least that is how I think she is doing it.

She has been doing it since the day I first saw her. It seemed to work on her cage-mates that she shipped in with. Whenever she would do it, they paid attention. If two of them were moving in on the same fly or cricket, she would pop and the other baby would just back off right away. Same thing if they walked by too close.

Now that she is settling in and figuring out the routine and knows that I am not reaching for her every time I open the door to her viv, she isn't popping every time I'm around. I hope she will still do it sometimes but am glad she is feeling more comfortable and maybe less stressed?

Even so, I know that weird popping, crackling, wheezing, whistling, etc. are all signs of RI so I have been keeping a close eye and ear on her. One time, she did open her mouth and take in a deep breath so I started worrying a bit more. Watching even closer and even got the stethoscope out to see if I could hear anything better that way! LOL

She liked the stethoscope more than my hand coming toward her and only popped once. Then she decided it must be something to climb on. Made it easier to put her closer to my ear so I could try listening for any of the warning signs so even though I couldn't hear anything with the it, it did prove useful :)
