Ribfest

Today was Ribfest. The Burlington Ribfest always falls on Labor day weekend. I believe it is said to be the biggest Ribfest in all of Canada, Though I haven't been to any anywhere else- so I cannot confirm the statements validity.

During a discussion on how anticipating this event is, and just how important it is to Burlingtonians, I thought of how it's pretty much "PETA Nightmare Day" (That's people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, largely vegetarians/vegans, for those of you who don't know). I mean it's pretty much a celebration of how humans love to unnecessarily completely and utterly gorge themselves drunk on thousands and thousands of pigs, cows and chickens.

  • Pulled Pork Sandwich (with extra rib sauce) from the Kentucky Smoked Ribs booth. $6.00
  • "Five Doller Lemonade." $5.00
  • Jumbo Elephant Ear (Chocolate sauce and ice cream) $7.50

The number of farm animals being killed each day is really staggering. Pretty much all those kinds of numbers are.

This is just for the USA from 1999 Slaughter Stats:

The minimum of 9,800,000,000 farmed animals killed every year in this country, comes out to a minimum of:
26,923,076.92308 killed every day
1,121,794
.871795 killed every hour
18,696
.58119658 killed every minute
311
.6096866097 killed every second
