Panther Chameleon Podcast - a New Outreach

Hello Chameleon Wranglers! I would like to announce the launch of the Panther Chameleon Podcast! Whereas the Chameleon Academy is more exploratory (and will continue on), the Panther Chameleon Podcast is a tutorial outreach for keepers joining the community via getting a panther chameleon. It will start by addressing the new keepers coming to the community via purchasing an egg.

What is the Panther Chameleon Podcast?

The Panther Chameleon Podcast is, essentially, a digital course. Those wishing to learn about panther chameleons start at episode one and each episode has a webpage that has pictures, text, .pdf downloads, and videos. The intention is not to have a new podcast show that runs for years, but to create an audio tutorial with a specific beginning and end. Each “course” may last three or four months and then the next “course” would begin. This allows researchers to easily select which block of episodes are relevant to what they want to know.

The first course (12-14 episodes) will be on hatchling care. We are seeing more people enter the community through purchasing an egg and they are requiring help in a situation that is not common. Usually keepers start with a juvenile and breeders are adept at raising groups! Over a number of years, I have worked out an easy and attractive method for raising individual hatchlings and will guide the listener through that method.

The Launch
I have just released two episodes of the podcast along with their website pages. The pages and the embedded episodes can be found on the main chameleon academy dot com website. The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, and Amazon music. The YouTube component will launch within a week.

Note for Admins
The Panther Chameleon educational outreach is designed to provide, not only an education for a new keeper with an egg, but also to help you help your members. You can send group members to this outreach to get hatchling care presented specifically for people completely new to chameleons. I explain everything in detail. You are also welcome to follow along to learn about the special needs of hatchlings so you will be in a better position to answer questions brought by members.

The biggest struggle I had was whether to have this course start with a smaller cage and transition to an adult size cage in four months or just start with the adult size cage. The obvious benefit of starting with the adult cage is that it is cheaper, but it could be more challenging to start there both for the new keeper and for me explaining everything. In the end, I decided to have them create a hatchling cage and then move up in four months.

One important thing I would like to make you aware of. I will be using the Chameleon Kit as an easy way to get the equipment necessary for the hatchling cage. There is a huge, well deserved, stigma towards the kit on social media. But the weak UVB, thermometer, vine, and small (but not too small) size cage actually works well for hatchlings! I have raised up veiled and panthers from hatching using the Chameleon Kit and, for this specific purpose, it works well. You can listen in to the podcast and I will explain it all. But if you have a member who is using a Chameleon kit to prepare for a hatchling just know they may be following my method. You are welcome, and encouraged, to continue educating about how the kit is not appropriate for a growing chameleon. There is no contradiction of that in what I am presenting.

Check it out!
And so, I invite you all to check out the outreach. I am releasing a “chapter/episode” once a week until it is completed. And one the hatchling course is completed I will go right into starting the course on caring for a juvenile. So, please check it out on the chameleon academy website, Spotify, or where ever you listen to podcasts!
