Oct 21, 2022: The Newcomer's Perspective

This weekend we focus on the theme of how newcomers come to the chameleon community. I am bringing on Julana Dizon who is the host of a reptile themed travel channel on YouTube. She has expressed an interest in getting a chameleon, but has not yet done the research. As she works with animal education I knew that she would research thoroughly before getting a chameleon, but I asked her to hold off and come to the Chameleon Hour Show completely fresh to share the kinds of questions she might have before she knows the specific questions to ask!

This entry is a place holder which will be filled in as the weekend's event fall into place and the discussion eventually ends up here.

The first event is the Chameleon Hour Show which you can watch right here!

After that we had our Saturday morning live session where Julana did the basic Google search for chameleon care and we asked her what she found. The audio was choppy, but we were able to get some feedback!

I continued the thoughts in the podcast episode. I also make the argument as to why the Chameleon Forums should be a part of every chameleon breeder's marketing portfolio. And this also explains why I am here instead of Facebook with its billions of active users. The fact is that this is a healthier place for the chameleon community and if I am going to funnel my viewers to a platform I want to do it to the platform that supports our breeding community. You can listen to my full thoughts here.

So we can now continue the discussion here!

The final events of this chameleon weekend with the Chameleon Academy Newsletter sent on Sunday night. This newsletter will have links to all the videos, chats, as well as any extra news items and, of course, my colorful commentary on it all. You can sign up for the Newsletter here

I first want to say Wow! All of the video clips of the variety of chameleons in your fist video was amazing to watch.

I also wanted to add how new chameleon owners really need to research good vets for their very exotic pet and how to choose one. A photo of a chameleon on their website doesn't necessarily mean they have any experience with this species. It is natural for people to believe what a doctor tells them. Too many people (myself included) have been told to soak their chameleon in a bath to promote shedding. As if they were like other reptiles. Look for the ones that ask for specific husbandry information at intake, and recommendations from experienced chameleon owners.
