Just checking in

Swyft is still being a brat about eating but he does eat. Just one superworm here and there. For awhile I am pretty sure he was eating gnats and flies that were in the room. (I have a natural turtle habitat and we tend to get bugs from that)
He drinks a lot, poops, and is active, and still friendly. Well, friendly for a chameleon. He doesn't puff or hiss at me. I can climb up the step ladder to his tree, slowly, put out my hand under him and he'll climb on me. I don't mess with him much because I just don't feel the need to bother him. I enjoy talking to him and tending to him, I have other pets I can cuddle if I want something to hold and cuddle.

He seems happy on his tree and I have a long curtain rod with fake plants wrapped around that as well. He is still free range but I have it contained to a specific area just by making that the tree-plants area and not offering other means of getting around. Unless he really wanted to attempt jumping off his shelf holding the tree and plants but so far he has stayed put. He climbs all over his schefflera, really enjoys it, that was the best purchase yet.

I received a new hydrometer/temp gauge from Fluker's, that was really nice of them to replace my broken one. I now have a humidifier in the room that I turn on a couple hours a day to keep the humidity up as even with my misting it can drop below 40% quickly. Colorado is so dry even in the winter.

I purchased a set of dubias and am attempting to raise my own. I still cannot get the superworms to take off. I have had scores of aliens and beetles and just cannot get babies out of them. How on earth can it be so difficult to make bugs breed? Sometimes I just couldn't get it coordinated so I would end up with one beetle and one alien, then that one beetle would die before the alien morphed, that happened a few times. Right now I have at least 6 aliens so I figure out of six I should be able to get enough beetles to make this happen. I just ran out of my last purchased set of superworms that I've been using to try and make this breeding happen. Oh and I had them in the dark of the closet only to find out later that it was too cold in the closet. So now I have them in a warmer area and have egg cartons over the alien dishes to keep them dark. Here's hoping this works. I have a turtle and chameleon that are cheering me on.

The dubia babies are so cute! I offered a cup of them to Swyft but even the little babies scurrying around would not entice him. He watched, tilted his head, but would not shoot. He does still have good use of his tongue as he just shot and caught a big ol' superworm yesterday. The babies are almost too cute to feed off anyhow. I really like dubias, they are just cute to me. My turtle is enjoying the bigger ones. (not giant ones, although if they weren't my breeders I would give them to her, she loves dubias and can eat a good-sized one)

I have the dubias in this really long wrapping paper tote. They have egg cartons, a small plate of water crystals, no substrate, and I've been putting in dog food, cat food, fruit, carrots and potatoes. I never know how much to put in, there are 100 of them plus 6 breeders. (1 male and 5 females) I need to read up on how much they eat. I'm being careful to watch for mold.

The superworms have substrate of corn meal, oatmeal, and then the leftover food of whatever I feed them. (potatoes, carrots, apples) as I read that I should not remove old food in case there is babies on it that I can't see. I have containers: a tote with all of the above for grown superworms (just fed off my last one though, eek) and a 10 gallon aquarium with screened top for breeding. So far no breeding is happening. Sigh. Maybe I should move the breeding into the larger tote? I didn't want beetles in a container without a lid as I read they could fly. (and didn't want to modify the other container as it is perfectly find for superworms)

Anyhow all is well, Swyft is beautiful coloring and very sweet.
