If your chameleon closes it's eyes through the day, it may very well be a sign that the chameleon is sick. Healthy chameleons eyes are open and alert for the whole day - they are diurnal and only sleep when it gets dark.
Sadly, chameleons are often really sick by the time their owners notice that anything is wrong. Take my first cham, Lily, for instance. A month after laying her second infertile clutch I came home from work one Monday afternoon to find her with here eyes closed. Immediately I knew that something was wrong - I'd read it so many times on here before so I knew it wasn't normal. I phoned the vets straight away and got an appointment for the very next morning. Sadly, despite being treated by the vet, my precious girl died on the Saturday afternoon, just 5 days after the first signs of illness.
So, if your chameleon closes it's eyes through the day then please, please take it to the vet as soon as you can. It may just save your little green friend's life.
