Some inspirational thoughts for free ranging
First, our living room is a large, bright (views on both sides) and pet free living room without small children walking around.
Second, the free-range area is at exact the same spot as where a Reptibreeze XL (24´x24´x48´) stood.
Many assume...
Of course, all animals require water to survive, and it isn't as simple as placing a bowl in the bottom and calling it a day. In fact, with most chameleons this will have little, if any benefit. Most chain pet stores display their chameleons with a water bowl, and this can be misleading to the...
Introduction to Bio-Activity:
As of recent times, a lot of folks have been asking questions, and for guides on Bio-active Enclosures. How to set them up, how to drain them, how they work, why they work. I figured it was good and Time, that someone sat down and made a Guide! I have been meaning...
So here are some links and things to know about the Chameleon Forums. For newcomers as well as some seasoned members there could be some features that you don't know exist, or just cant seem to find them when you need them.
First off the resources page...
Hi and congratulations on having a beautiful girl veiled chameleon. These little sweeties are near and dear to my heart, and I’ve learned from some of the very best keepers on the forum how to care for them and effectively manage their reproductive health. Now I’m passing that knowledge on to...
Offered two from a cup, not interested. Moved the paper at the bottom of his cage and a cricket came out so I didn't want to add more to the cage.
Swyft ate the two crickets instead. so that's six for him today.
Gave Swyft 6 medium crickets dusted with Miner-All. It says it has calcium 34-36%. He is heartily chasing and catching them. I decided not to do the cup since he seems to like hunting.
Going to offer a cricket to Jolly.
I'm putting a calendar in the room to mark when I should do the different dustings of crickets. I'm also going to have a different colored pen/pencil for each guy and jot # of crickets eaten. (if any, sigh, I wish Jolly would eat in front of me) This blog works for my discussion of them but at...
Jolly still isn't eating and Swyft is still in hunting/hungry mode.
Swyft had four crickets, lightly dusted by the cup but no dust added, just whatever was in the bottom. He now crawls to the front of the cage, cage door open, and snags the crickets right out of the cup, it's cool! Three...
I'm going to read up on the feeding. I love watching Swyft eat and he is such a hunter and a pig. Today was going to be my "no feed day" but that didn't happen. He got a big ol' roach this morning, two I believe, and now tonight after misting he was all hunting around so I offered him two...
I had such a blast watching my guys outside! I brought their enclosures outside, exactly 1/2 in sun and 1/2 in shade, I just kept following the line of the porch side. Swyft really enjoyed it, he was all over the place, nose in the air, reaching for the plants nearby, it was so cool to watch...
Today I went looking for some chameleon items. I found the bamboo sticks at Hobby Lobby and they were on sale too! I got one set and divided it between the two cages, took my time threading it around and fastening it, then threading around their fake vine. Both chams have been climbing up...
My first morning after giving up the girls and what a sigh of relief. I was so worried Alice might be hinting at nesting. I couldn't tell if she was hinting or hunting as other parts of the day she would be way up at the top of the cage as usual. Anyhow moving forward with the boys.
I...
I've begun the addiction! I acquired my chams on Craig's List, all four with all setups. Crazy huh? I found this site and was really excited for my new journey but the more I read the more I realized there was so much to learn.
Thankfully I was contacted by very experienced chameleon...
Leo has had a growth spurt this month I think! I was worrying a bit that he might be behind the norm for his age, but now I think he's caught up. His weight has nearly doubled during this period.
Here are his weight records for this month:
6/05/2010 29.6 g
6/12/2010 36.9 g...
Week 1: fruit flies* (no supplementation) Its worth noting that i didnt witness any eating until around day 4 post hatching.
Week 2 (week 1 for the ones that hatched later): fruit flies* calcium dusted for one of the feeds every other day (they are fed 3-5 times daily)
Week 3: fruit flies*...

I would like to post a few pics of Lily when she was poorly, so that other owners can see what a sick chameleon looks like. They become sick so fast that you don't notice how bad they look at the time, it kind of creeps up on you. I didn't realise just how ill Lily looked at the time - it's...
There was a lot of growth in May, especially toward the end of the month. At the beginning he weighed in at only 13.8 grams. I was starting to worry that he was small for his age, but by the end of the month I think he was catching up. I don't have a weight for him near the end of the month...
Chameleon care basics
CHAMELEON ENCLOSURE
The first thing you will need is a well ventilated enclosure. Glass aquarium tend to have stagnant air and the constant moisture can cause the chameleon to become very ill. A well ventilated enclosure will help maintain a proper humidity cycle. A good...
The clutch of Ambilobe x Nosy Be babies is starting to hatch now too. This is a little ahead of schedule (and the pure nosy be clutch hatched a little behind schedule just a few weeks ago). boy oh boy am I ever going to be a busy person over the next while. Better get more fruit flies brewing...
Here he is in April, so if he was hatched on Nov. 21, then he is going on 5 months old here. He seems a bit small for his age here, at least compared to some of the other pics I've seen on the forum. But then again, I don't know his exact birthday and who knows how accurate everyone else is...
As stated in the previous entry I received Leonardo on January 27th and his approximate hatch day was November 21st. I received him therefore when he was about 8 weeks old. This blog entry shows some pictures taken of him during the month of February, when his age was in the range from 9 to 12...
A brief history:
I purchased Leonardo form Kammerflage in January and had to wait for warm enough weather for him to get shipped to me in New England. He's a sambava panther chameleon and his sire is Poncho. Kammers sent me the largest and "calmest" from the clutch and I was the first in...
