Wow... my cham just ate a gecko

I was working on my leopard gecko cages when I noticed Othello climbing down towards his water tupper (the drip system drips into a tupperware thing suspended on a branch with another tiny hole on the bottom, and that drips down to the bottom - in case anyone takes that the wrong way) and I thought he was just thirsty. And then I hear a crunch and I look over and see he's eating something. I didn't put crickets in his cage today so I was a little confused.

And then I see he's in the process of swallowing one of those little wild geckos that are all over the place here in Florida! I guess the poor little thing must have snuck into the cage in one of the plants or something. I was dumbfounded! And as a gecko owner, a little disturbed, honestly.

It was really little, so I hope it doesn't do any harm to my cham. But I just had to share that.

You need to have a fecal done on the chameleon the gecko was probley carrying some parasites

Yea, probably. At least my geckos are due for their vet checks, so I was going to take him along anyway.

But it was so random. I never thought I'd have to worry about one of my animals eating wildlife.

I do not live where there are wild geckos. But this is not the first time I have heard of it happing. I remember seeing a pic of a cham eating a humming bird awhile ago. But at least you were taking him to the vet anyway.

Yea, I've seen photos of them eating other animals too but I never thought I'd have to worry about it in the safety of my apartment lol. But animals will always surprise you. I remember when I volunteered at a wildlife rescue and we had a toucan in an aviary that would eat the little birds that got through the fencing. I always thought they were strictly vegetarian, but I was wrong. And the same is true for a lot of our pet reptiles - they'll eat just about anything they can fit in their mouths if they get the chance.

Othello is a Jackson's cham. Around 10 months old.
