Ive heard that you shall not feed your feeders oranges or clementines if you are to feed them to your cham later? I have never understod why though.
Want to clear this one out now :)

Really???

I have given my crickets oranges, and don't see any ill affects. It will be interesting to see what others say.

I've never heard this and Kammerflage Kreations, which has been breeding chameleons for like 30 years plus was the one who told me to use oranges for my crickets instead of water.

Thanks for the response. It is actually a local advice I got here in sweden. So it might just have been crazy swedes that dosen´t got any experience that told me that! Glad that got cleared out. Time to slice some oranges!

Oranges are just fine. I've been using them for years with no ill-effects. Not sure where you heard it was bad!

Could it be because of the black fungus problem with oranges that your country gets from South Africa? I recently read that citrus imports from there have been stopped because of worry in southern Europe about infecting their crops.

I use oranges as well. It is fun to watch the crickets devour an orange wedge! O.K., that is kinda sad. I need more hobbies .

I used Oranges or mandarin segments for when i had crickets, tried it witht eh locusts but it seems like they wont eat them for some reason

On subject of locusts..mine don't seem to be eating anything, I'm new to this and iv shredded carrot and sweet potatoes in with them at the mo...also some dry stuff I bought from pet store(pro-rep bug grub) ....tho they seem to be more happy climbing the container they are in, my morio worms on the other hand are feeding well in the porridge oats i gave them along with carrot and sweet potato shavings...tho I keep reading that the morio worms should be only given once or twice a week...thing is kev seems to love them as also the wax worms :s ...anyone else have any good tips for guy loading locusts??

For the record I have a veiled and only got him yesterday...seems to be settling in ok otherwise...been told he i just over a year old. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1385441196.239318.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1385441215.507588.jpg

First, how many of them do you have? You might not notice if they are eating if they are just a few. I dont see any change on the food I give my dubias cuz I only got like 100. They eat tiny bits of the food only :)

In addition to the oranges being good feeders...what about lemons, and more specifically blood oranges?
Also citrus trees in viv...?
I purchase a blood orange tree specifically for my veiled's large viv and I can't find anything for or against having the tree in with him...

I feed my dubias and my crickets oranges.

That being said, i've heard people on this site comment on how oranges can have ill effects on your cham, in the long term. I believe it has something to do with the acid in citrus fruits…...

I know you are not supposed to use these to feed the lizard directly as it can cause diarrhea due to the liquid content. But even with that in mind you can still feed them a bit on occasion. Also this was referencing bearded dragons. I'm not sure a cham would even be interested in oranges.
