When your body can't decide to have a heart attack or exploding.

When you wake up and the night heat light died? I almost had a heart attack, I RAN to the cage and made sure he was okay, luckily he was and I put his day light on for him, but my heart still about exploded out of my chest.

What kind of night time temps do you have to need a light at night, then panic without it? My cham room goes down to 63 and I don't use a heat light at night.

my chams have no heat at night..the temps drop to around 68 at the coldest..a cool downdown at night is good for them (if you take in consideration how a rain forest cools off at night..its actually not very warm once that sun goes down and the wet forest cools off)

I have it on one side incase he wants warmth, and a darkended area incase he wants to cool down. My night time tempts lately have been around 60 but I'm just paranoid! I've only had him since Christmas so I'm trying not to be such a clingy overprotective parent.

you really don't need any type of light as they like darkness to sleep. And they can handle 60 degrees, but you are saying that is with heat. Have you checked your temps at night without it? If you are worried about the temps then use a ceramic heater at night that does not produce light.

ya 60 for them is no prob..but if you are getting temps lower than that you may just need a small wattage ceramic heater set away from the cage to turn on at night(no light from them just heat)..

if that is in the same room you sleep..you must have some heavy ass blankets to keep comfy! lol

night temp

OMG, the first 2 months that I had my chams I was always waking up and going to check their temps. I live in an old drafty mobilehome and it would get into the low to mid 50's at times. I can't imagine the paranoia people with newborn babies must get.

Subadult/adult veileds and panthers can handle temps below 60 just fine. Veileds can even handle temps below 50 without any issues (as long as they are healthy.)

I think she has a senegals, so I'm not sure on there temps but would think 60s over night should still be safe.

as others have said if you do need heat over night (and can't heat the whole room) you should use a cermic heat bulb or some other source that doesn't put out ANY light.

I know my guys will go to sleep, and some times sleep through low light (such as me turning a light on in a ajoining room with the door open) but often they will wake up or at lest rouse, so I think anything more than what a bright moon lit night would be is to much.

if they are not getting a restful nights sleep it will affect thier health (just like it does ours). so figue out some way to safely heat with out light (if you do use a cermic heater make sure there is no cloth, papper, wood ect. near it.)

If you're going to get any form of night heat at least get a ceramic.

That way you're not having any 'light' for disturbance.

Just IMO.

When the cage temp drops, the cham's metabolism is low, brain is cool, and not "thinking" about whether he's cold or not. Really, check the room temp first. If it's above 60 F you are fine. If it gets lower once in a while that won't really hurt him as long as he can bask well each morning. You could even drape a towel over the cage at night if you are still worried.
