When Splat met Buffie!!

A little announcement from me - Team Spluffie has now been formed! I am so excited and can't wait to find her first fertile eggs!

Even tangled up they are super cute !!! Congrats!!!!

Yes, on my leg, lol! The first time he got close she legged it up my arm! Once he got hold of her there was no going back! Fingers crossed that it was successful! I think it was as she has spent the last 6 days sleeping on a leaf right under the UV, which she normally doesn't do!

I hope it works. Baby cresties are gorgeous.

Hopefully she should lay at the end of this month or the start of March. You will probably hear me up there in Scotland the day I find my first hatchling!

Tiff how could you let me miss Splat and Buffie?? You know how I love looking at those little cuties. They just look so sweet all cuddled up together. You and I can have babies together. How long will it take till eggs, then to babies?
Could up pick up either Splat or Buffie and take a picture in your hand? I need to know what size your kids are.

You best not tell Monty about this, you know he wants a gf also.

Laurie, I will take pics on my hand for you this evening!
Time between mating and laying is around 28 - 30 days, then incubating can be anything from 60 to over 100 days! Incubating at room temp so they take longer to hatch is preferable so they are bigger, stronger hatchlings with better crest structure. I am happy to wait - I have no choice, do I?! lol! One encouraging sign is that Buffie has spent every day of the past week sleeping/basking on a lef under the UV, so I can only presume she is doing this to aid the development of those precious eggies inside her!!! Excited is an understatement, and she hasn' even laid yet! Cresties are nocturnal so it's very unusual to see them through the day, let alone have one sleep under the light all day in full view!

(Chanting) Spluffies, spluffies, spluffies, spluffies!!!!!! PMSL!!!

I don't know what I'm more excited about, teeny tiny baby spluffies, or having my own baby(in the not too distant future hopefully!)

Just realised this is my 1000th post!! And there couldn't be a better subject to be posting about!!

Showed hubby the pics of Splat n Buffie last night.

He thinks they're fascinating!! Woohoo!!!

Today, I came home from work to find them snuggled up together in their hide! I have waited for this photo for a long time!

We video tapped when we put ours together it wasn't pretty! They made chirping noises and attacked each other!!! But we had success!!! 14 eggs laid and 12 babies hatched!! Last two weren't fertile!! Love the babies!!

I love the noise he makes when he 'chats' to her, lol! Sounds like a tiny duck quacking!

Splat is a (wait for it,it's a mouthful, lol!) - red harlequin partial pinstripe with portholes and white fringing. Buffie is a yellow tiger. She does have a couple of black spots so I am hoping she carries the dalmatian gene!
