When Should I try to put my Panthers together???

Hello Everyone in the Cham World..LOL!

WHen should I put my Panther Chams together for mating? I'm waiting to see if my female is going to lay eggs or not, so do I need to wait til she lays her eggs? What is the normal routine I should follow to properly mate these two? If you look at my gallery I have pics posted of both of them!

when shes receptive. not after shes layed eggs. she should be a nice pechypink color. try to put her in when she is. if she gets mad take her out and try again ina day or 2. when they do mate than your good. theres alot of posts like this so you could have probally done a serch.

First off, make sure that you can properly care for numerous hatchlings, you have the supplies, time and money.

Babies are not cheap at all.

She needs to lay an infertile clutch of eggs before she gets bred, and she should be about 12-14 months old and receptive/ready to breed.

As far as when she is ready that is basically how you can tell..

Also the female shouldn't be trying to hiss/bite the male she will be willing to mate with him. but keep a close eye on them for when she knows that she is done she will show her gravid coloration and get upset and try to bite him, or puff up.

Just curious, where have you read this? My female is about 13 months old and hasn't laid an infertile clutch yet and I was under the impression that you can breed without them even laying a clutch before. I have read though that if it's their first clutch and they have been bred, then that clutch of eggs may still be infertile if it's their first.

But yes the female should be over a year and atleast 50 grams and higher. You also want to make sure before breeding that you have a fecal done for both chams. Don't want any parasites being passed between them.

Sorry to offend you if I did? But I should have put that they should at least have an infertile clutch before they breed, that way you know how they might lay and what to kind of expect when they lay.

Yes I do have the supplies and money...just want to make sure I breed them right, new to doing so and would love to get into breeding!! Also my female has been showing gravid coloration and I think I can feel eggs inside of her but she hasnt laid any yet! She has everything she needs to lay them! Also...my questioning was to make sure how long I need to wait if she is gravid now(getting ready to lay some eggs and not sure if she his fertile or unfertile do to the previous owners not knowing if they bred or not).

Well, if she is carrying eggs, you might want to wait until after she deposits those ones and until she shows receptive colors again. I don't know if you will get anything out of her and if she is gravid she will refuse the male.

Do you know any sort of age on her?

Lol no offense taken I was just seeing if there was something new I can learn!

I kind of use that as a rule of thumb, wait until your chameleon has an infertile clutch that way you can see how she re-acts to laying etc. You kind of have a grasp on what to expect when she is laying her fertile clutch.

Yes she turned 1 years old on 7/22/11!

Okay, so she should be ready to breed. I would let her lay this infertile clutch if she is gravid. Could you post pictures of her? Then wait a few months down the road and see if she is receptive then breed again. I assume it's your first time. Maybe it will give you more time to prepare yourself to parenthood of baby chameleons.

She looks very gravid, wait until she lays this clutch and since they are infertile I assume, you can toss them. Wait a few months until she is a receptive again and then you can breed. c:

Okay...she is a beauty tho! That pic is the best one we have gotten!! So she does look Gravid then? LOL! Well the previous owners said they put her and my male together at the end of June! So I dont know if she was bred or not! But thanks for your help! Also what types of Chams do you have??

Well, if she was put together with a male, expect to hatch out some babies! Contact them and see if they mated, tell them that she is gravid attach the pictures and go out and get and incubator if need and vermiculite or perlite.

They said they dont know if they mated..they never seen them do it! But they were together for a couple of days! Also I have a few more things to buy! Buy that photo: Would put her in a larger laying bin or just leave her 8" pot in her cage? I havent seen her goto the bottom of her cage yet!!

I recommend a 5 gallon bucket, with washed play sand that you can get at HomeDepot. It's a 40-50 lb bag sounds massive, but it will all fit in that bucket, make sure you can make a tunnel and if you make a ball and the ball doesn't fall apart it should be good, just stick it in her cage and she will know what to do. Don't get too worried if she doesn't lay right away. They tend to make test holes and cover them back up and go back to the top of the cage. You will know when she layed because she is up in the top dirty and skinny. Afterwards giver her a nice shower and feed her right away. Make sure not to bother her when she is laying put a sheet over the cage so she is all by herself.

No need to wait for an infetile clutch before breeding. In fact Ive had several pardalis that never laid infertile clutches at all. The first time they laid was after breeding them. Since that female is gravid from the looks of those pics. I'd let her lay normally. Wait and see if shes going to lay any retained clutches. Then let her rest several months before breeding her again.

If you want her to have a full long life only breed her 1x a yr. That one copulation can often result in 2 to 4 clutches. Let her go thru that cycle and dont breed her until the next yr. That should give her 5 months or more of rest and rehab before she starts the process over.
