Found this on my morning jog, thought I'd take him/her home and show my kids. Possibly keep it or let it go? Not sure yet. I did a little research on the internet and I think its a Gopher Snake? Im located in Cali Bay Area (inland).

Thanks:)

Very cool find. In my personal opinion I think that you should put it back in it's environment, it was doing perfectly find before you swooped in and took him/her home. It will do perfectly fine if/when you release it. If it's an invasive species or injured than I would say to keep it and try to help it, then let it go, unless it's invasive of course. Just my two cents.

Its a gopher snake. I agree I would release it back. Their feeding schedule and feeders are completely different from that of a CB.

Cool find Id end up putting it back regardless but I dont really understand the above statement. You mean snakes in the wild dont eat F/T? lol.

Really nice looking snake!! Im going to agree with putting it back. Along with what others said, its probably illegal to take one from the wild as a pet without the right permission/permits.

Without knowing the type of snakes environment you may be feeding it the wrong thing. For instance down here in Texas you can find hog nose snakes all day. CB hognose snakes can eat mice and rats just fine but good luck trying to get a wild caught hognose to eat a mouse or rat. Wild caught hognose eat frogs, fish, etc.

And to prove the point, I have caught several wild caught hognose and they don't want anything to do with a mouse or rat
