What is he doing?

My male senegal, who is in good health will sometimes open his mouth wide while basking. He will keep it like this for a while, it's weird. Anybody know what he's doing? He's not puffing up while doing this, just simply opening his mouth and leaving it like that for minutes at a time.

Your basking lamp is too hot and he is expelling heat. Make sure there is no stringy mucous in his mouth as that could indicate URI. If there is no mucous, recheck your temps and lower them a bit.

you know what! the only vine he does this on is the one that is under the basking lamp directly(well, with in inches)! I'm going to move the vine, thanks SO much!

My assessment of that behavior is congruent with Juli's.
You could raise the basking lamp instead of moving the vine ... or replace the bulb with a lower wattage.

my chameleon also does this, there are plenty of cooler spots lower down in the enclosure why does he not just move down there, I also caught him try to eat the light bulb so i think im going to have to some serious rearanging before he burns his tongue!!!
