I have a 3 month old Jackson Chameleon, everything about his enclosure is fine, his feeding is fine.
Earleir tonight I noticed the substrate (just paper towels) were quite dirty and damp, and his cage is on top of a wooden dresser. It started dripping a lot, consistently. I decided I would need to clean the cage and replace the substrate right then. Unfortunately, it was 10:00 PM and that means having to take him out after his bed time. I tried to get him on my hand in the most calm and smooth way possible but he just wouldn't come out, understandable. But the dripping and soaking became worse, so I though I'd have to just grab him. I tried but he opened his mouth slightly, and I could tell he was very stressed. He went into a corner of the cage and became a very pale, almost white colour. I decided to just put towls around the cage and let it soak. And worry about it tomorrow. I put the blankets over his cage like always to give him more jungle darkness, but I cannot help but feel very bad, and very worried. Do you think all the hope I had of getting him used to me and even being more accustomed to being on my hand so that I can take him outside for natural sunlight is gone forever now that I did this?
