a vent about gecko forums

sorry if this isnt in the right place..but i have to vent.

i HATE gecko forums -.- simple as that. the people are rude and arrogant. i asked a simple question about my poor little neurologically challenged baby gecko, and got 2 stupid responses in 3 days, then nothing, my thread was lost in the other threads. finally i posted:

"nevermind. i never get any help here. its a shame ive gotten more reliable help on chameleonforums with these guys than here."

and NOW people are posting on my thread..most of them are yelling at me to go to the vet, even though ive clearly stated ive emailed my vet and my vet has clearly replied he cant do anything if it is a neurological issue, and i am not spending a ton of money going to the vet IF HE CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!! ugh...and then on top of that, they're putting this forum down for answering my question 100% better than they, but this is not a "gecko specific" forum -.- so yea..all i wanted to know was, does he have a neurological issue or not.

i <3 this forum with all my heart :3 i feel better now, thanks for letting me vent!

Aww im sorry.

I think your little neuro challenged baby is cute. even if he is 'special'.

haha, i agree! he will be my "special" baby and i will give him the life of luxury! i just needed to know what was wrong with him so i could find out if i could help him or not...but, i suppose the only thing i can do now that i know what it is, is to spoil him :p

I completely agree, there is not a single gecko forum that I was able to tolerate for any amount of time. I couldn't stand the IQ level being as low as it was, especially among leopard gecko keepers. There was never an intelligent discussion about anything, and the advice was so asinine. I kept (and still keep) all geckos with soil substrate, something organic and particulate like top soil, and I could never share a photo without a hoard of noobs berating me for not using paper towels. As if leopard and AFT geckos, who are burrowing geckos, NEVER COME INTO CONTACT WITH SOIL, SAND, OR CLAY. Ugh! I haven't been on a gecko forum in years, and I'm glad!

I think spoiling him, is exactly what he needs. hehe.

but you have to post more photos and vids of him, cuz im sorry, but his special walk is hilarious.

hahaha i can do that :p once his brother's new owner takes spock, ill be able to focus more on my special sparky ;) maybe i can eventually teach him to handfeed, it will be cute to watch him get excited and run (wobble and trip) up to the side of the tank to see me :3 maybe i should invest in making him a helmet though...

i think a helmet would be a very smart idea. cant be too careful.

I saw a vid of a dog with extreme sleepwalking problems, whose owners made her a helmet to wear so she wouldnt hurt herself when she ran into walls.

i completely agree. every keeper has their own way of keeping them, and as long as the essentials are there, thats all that matters. although impaction has happened in geckos from ingesting their substrate, it is nowhere near the effect it has on chameleons! chameleons are made to be in trees (except pygmies) therefore they dont have substrate in the wild! most geckos are made to be on the ground, which means their bodies are accustomed to natural substrates! sheesh..so much for those turds even knowing geckos are naturally wild -.- i keep mine on paper towels only because it is easy cleanup and i change my enclosures around sometimes...im not worried about impaction.

so, im glad your with me on the whole gecko forum issue, and i completely support your substrate opinions lol :)

i too support substrate usage in geckos!

haha, id have to wait till he's full grown though :/ i dont want to make a helmet and have him grow out of it overnight...i just feel bad because when he tries to run, because he trips and doesnt know how to control his head, he's always banging it on stuff...

OR i could put him in a padded tank :3 im getting carried away, arent i? lol

awww haha, he sounds adorable.

and yes you are, but dont we all when it comes to our animals? scaly or furry?

That's such a shame! I'm on theleopardgeckoforum and there's some really nice people on there! Mind you I've only had to post a couple of times.

I would love to see pics of your special little guy :) our geckos are mad as hatters but cute as buttons!

leopardgeckoforum is pretty good, i have no complaints for them except that theres only a few active members. kodieh in particular is extremely helpful. i had posted about my special baby there as well, but a few members admitted they didnt have the experience to tell me what was going on, and didnt want to give me a blank guess and send me on the wrong track, i respect them because of that.

and heres a pic and vid of my baby :)

yea, i hate that lol. when you post on a forum, you want answers! i agree, people on here are much more helpful with more than chameleons, i have to say this is one of the best forums i have ever come across :3

I joined and abandoned a beardie forum and ball python forum. Got told my Rankins shouldn't be on sand, asked for advice with the ball python and just got people questioning whether my reptile vet weighed her correctly!

If he's always hitting his head I, personally, dont think padding is taking it too far. I wasn't too fond of gecko forums either. They didn't seem all that happy to help out.

ill be seperating him from his brother tomorrow and placing him in a padded tub on my new rack, think bubblewrap will work? the more i think about it, the more i consider, everytime he smacks his head, he is probably just doing more damage. and yea, theyre more concerned with critiqing everything about your care than the actual question that was asked :/

I was thinking just a bunch of folded paper towels, but go with what you think is best. You obviously know the situation better than I do. :)
